Stiffness is just personal preference. Some peeople like having stiffer skates and other like a boot that flexes more.

I find that stiffer skates provide more ankle support although they sacrifice comfort. Maybe it's just me.

All i have to say is wow. If stiff skates made you faster, then why would anyone wear soft skates. <_< They give you more ankle support, which some people dont like. They also tend to break down a little slower depending on the skate.

It's a lot easier to make sharp cuts at fast speeds with stiffer boots for me too. I have to have a tight skate, I skate a lot faster and productivley with a stiffer boot. If for some reason I have a boot with a servere difference in ankle support, I use a good amount of tape to stiffen the boot up.

Is there a reason that as the older Mission skates went up performance wise, the stiffness rating also went up? Do the majority of people purchasing high end skates prefer the stiffer boot? I have always liked a stiff boot and in the midst of trying out a pair of "softer" high end skates. I haven't skated alot yet, but the transition seems to coming along, slowly, but coming along.

I'm the opposite. If I'm doing a lot of tight turning, I find it much easier to wear looser skates and let my ankles roll over, but then again I'm a very weird skater. I just feel if I'm wearing stiff, tight skates, that they don't have as much give, and if I go to make a turn or whatever, I can't get down as low or turn as tight.
