ewww thats bad. wash the stuff in your tub. i did that when my cat sprayed my gear. some stuff can go in the washing machine too ,just hang dry. next time just delete the first pic and put the 2nd pic in that post instead of making a new one

i know someone who sprays his equipment down after everygame with a lysol solution - its possible that might work cause his equipment doesnt smell at all

i think he just waters down some lysol and puts it in a spray bottle

dunno if it would work or not but its just a suggestion

Look at a hardware store for stuff to kill mold and see if that works. That's the most important thing to do because that can lead to all sorts of problems. Look for something with ozone in it.

Done Right Sports

In the FAQ section about "Can you wash hockey equipment?", they talk about using Murphy's Oil Soap for leather parts (e.g. your gloves).

I don't wash my skates, but I wash my other gear and so far, no deterioration.

Same thing happened to me..

I took a couple months off and when i finally was ready to jump back on to the ice i opened my bag to see my Eagle H-34's covered with mold. I thought the gloves were completely dead and they were pretty brand new. What i did was wash the gloves a couple times on a very light setting in the washing machine, then air dried them while spraying them down with lysol. Good luck

Which is why you dont keep your stuff closed inside your bag ;)

Hmm, at the end of my season I washed all my gear and put it in my bag and put it down in my cellar. The bag is closed and i havent checked it, but this thread got me thinking, will there be mold on it?

I'll 2nd that lysol idea. I had a little mold problem with my elbow pads say 15 years ago. I washed them in a sink, dried, then sprayed lysol on them until they were wet.

The mold did not grow anymore and I'm still using those pads today.

i think eagle's palm material is a breeding ground for mold. I opened my bag yesterday to find mold on my brand new eagles. I used them maybe 4 times for light shootaround. Not only that, i never kept them in my bag. I aired them out and left them in my room after each use, even though they never even got wet from sweat. I put them in my bag about 3 weeks ago and found them moldy yesterday. None of my other gear, which had been sitting in my bag for a hell of a lot longer than the gloves, had a spec of mold. I ended up using my old gloves (which need to be handled with a biohazard suit)...those things were sitting in another bag, marinating for a good 6 months and not an ounce of mold on those.

Anyway i got rid of the mold with a 75% alcohol, 25% water mix. i scrubbed them damn good to get all of it out. Thankfully the palms are still soft and good as new. I didn't have any of those deep black spots where the mold is embedded, just some surface fuzz. Do you think the alcohol is sufficient enough to kill it?? I'm gonna keep cleaning them for a few days to be sure, but i wanna know if you guys think alcohol is sufficient or if i should hit them with something else too?

I think it would be good, but hey, it wouldn't hurt to use some disinfectant spray, or mix up some of this lysol stuff these guys love. :D

hey man..

i don't know if anyone mentioned this.. i'm too lazy to read through all the replies, but you can get some OIL SOAP.. use that for your skates. clean them in the tub with one of those toilet bowl scrubbers(a new, unused one). that's what i did. it'll take your skates a few days to dry, but it should work. for your gloves.. try finding thinner little scrubbers. ask around at a hardware store or maybe at any drugstores near you. try walmart if there's one near you. they have all kinds of sheet there. i don't know what all has mildew/mold.. but ummmmm it will probably stain.. maybe not a lot, but a little. ask your mom or someone.. if she's good at that kind of stuff. good luck..

To get that, wrap a thin washcloth or whatever around each finger, with the lysol or whatever on it. Maybe wear some latex gloves...
