Team Retirement

Recommended Posts

So, Lets's see.

Up front we've got Vinnie Damphousse

On D. - McInnis, Stevens and Patrick.

Pretty decent so far. Anyone else retired so far this year that we can add to the roster?

is messier done?

We can only hope.

What if he doesn't care if he's a fourth liner? What if he's not ready to start playing at the YMCA. What if he just likes playing hockey at the highest level in the world?

You're saying he's done, because you're comparing him to his prime. He obviously is well aware he's nowhere near his prime, but maybe he still would rather play six minutes a game at this level.

He should have been a fourth line guy over the last few years.

This could be a "Never mind!" From today's Sports Log:

"Mark Messier will not be reporting for a training camp physical with Rangers veterans tomorrow. He might, however, take the opportunity to announce his expected retirement. The 44-year-old legendary leader and six-time Stanley Cup champion has not commented publicly on his playing status in two months -- since telling the New York Daily News he would consider offers from any of the NHL's 30 teams. However, while giving him all the space he needs to make the decision in his own time and in his own way, those closest to him have been laying the groundwork for his post-playing career. It is expected he will have some role in the Rangers' organization, and an announcement about that could come as early tomorrow. Rangers general manager Glen Sather has deflected all questions about Messier's plans or whether he would fit into the Rangers' rebuilding program."

Don Sweeney is mulling retirement. He apparently wanted to return to Dallas but they didn't invite him to camp.

From all his interviews, he seems like a very classy guy.

From today's Boston Herald:

"It was learned yesterday that longtime Bruins defenseman Don Sweeney has retired and accepted a job as assistant dean of students at Phillips Andover. Sweeney's agent, Mark Witkin, said the Harvard graduate would also begin working with NESN in a broadcast role. Sweeney played 1,052 of his 1,115 games for the B's."

I recently flew over an interview with Irbe (it was IIHF.com I think) and he said his goal is to play at the World Championships which will be in Latvia next year to finish off. I guess he will have to keep in shape until then in some way or another.

Salo? Wow...didn´t know that. Thought he still had something left.

It was over the lock-out. The long shot goal just killed him. I wish he bounced back better, I thought he was one of the better starters in the NHL up until then.
