All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 I have this rink i play at often...and they are running very low on cash....I dont know what the problem is...but its freezing in there...they cant afford a heater...its so bad.........that our fingers turn like white...and we cant move them...needless to say that we cant shoot or stickhandle...but some of my friends where mittens under their gloves....i tried that...but i just loose my stickhandling "feel" if you know what i mean. Any suggestions....i mean.....its so cold that...when we leave our gear in the locker room for an hour break between games....we'll come back with frost on our elbow pads and shins. :( My main consern is the fingers being numb...any suggestions?please dont tell me that i have to toughen up because all of my teammates are having this same problem.....and for the upcoming season....i want my practice time to actually be valuable.... whbd18 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 My rink doesnt have heat in the rink section.Locker rooms/Lobby ,yes. I find it hard to believe it is that cold in your rink, maybe your compressor is broken or the setting is too low.
All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 :( I dont know any of that stuff....all i know...is that the rink is desperate for money and is barely alive because of the little practice we use there....but the rumor is they cant have a heater or somthin and its really cold...any suggestions? Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Maybe batting gloves underneath for another layer? Or some type of heating cream/gel?

All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 ya...ive heard of the cooler rink...but this is not in atlanta...this is central illinios....bout hour and half away from chicago....i liked the batting glove idea because it has that grippy foam stuff on the palms so my stick wont slide like regular mittens. Ya....my teammates and I have done the shower thing...thats a good idea ...but....i metioned this rink is low on money....it dont have showers...plus...just me...but i hate wasting water.......... but ill look at some prices for batting gloves..dont wanna get something too expensive if i dont know if itll work... tokes 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 If I'm playing outdoors or in a cold arena I use my nike diamond elite 5's under my gloves. Stickhandling feel is taken away a bit, but it's better than nothing. Warmer than those little cloth stretchy gloves and better feel too. You can find the diamond elite 4's on ebay for about 20 bucks, you don't really need the more expensive ones just to wear under hockey gloves once in a while. biff44 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 If the only problem is your fingers freezing, I use hand warmers when I am stuck up in a tree stand hunting all day long in winter. They easily will last for a hockey game.Reusables:http://www.hotsnapz.com/Single use:http://www.dynamic-living.com/hand-warmers.htm

Crazy Otto 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 Solutions I've heard of: hand/foot warmers (any hunting/camping supply store and most sporting goods stores will have); batting gloves (I've worn 'em under my hockey gloves at an outdoor rink); and Chadd's suggestion about Icy Hot is good too. Also try a hair dryer; plug it in in the locker room and warm up your gloves and skates with it before you put 'em on. Irbe1 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2005 What I do when playing outdoors on a really cold day, when my fingers start getting numb I go into the washroom and run hot water on my hands for about 30 seconds. Then I am good to go for the rest of the night, for some reason or other after I run the water on them they don't go numb again. If your dressing room doesn't lead right to your bench and you can't get to the washroom during your skate you could try running the hot water on hands before you go out, see if that works.
