Irbe1 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2005 Running start for me I suppose, though my acceleration is brutal.
Dangles 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2005 I think a crossover start would get you faster..where your parallel to the blue lines.
sherwood21 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2005 I use a V when I am needing to start/stop and have time. At first a V start doesn't seem like you are going to accelerate quickly, but its the best no doubt. You get as much forward lean as you can without falling, and then your golden. You can pick up so much speed this way, its scary.
Cavs019 708 Report post Posted September 18, 2005 the V is good, but once you get strong enough you can just lean back on one leg and thrust.
Neo5370 132 Report post Posted September 18, 2005 Laura Stamm teaches/recomends the V start, but I personally find it cumbersome.Maybe I just don't have the coordination for it but I prefer to coil my strong leg (if I have a choice) and let it explode.......well nowadays it just kinda pops haha. AtlantaThrashers01 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2005 I think a crossover start would get you faster..where your parallel to the blue lines. i went to a hockey camp and the instructor was the dallas or sum other NHL skating coach and he told us that crossovers take too much time cuz u got to step over ur foot, the best is the V or T (L) start because it takes the least time to do and the crossover makes u wanna jump and not keep ur skates closer to the ice
biff44 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2005 One trick I have heard about leaving a V start is to get up on the toes and lean forward so you start to fall, and then run as fast as you can to keep from falling down.

Edge 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 the V is good, but once you get strong enough you can just lean back on one leg and thrust. that's the best way to do it IMO....you get the most power.

I am told that i look very funny but it gets the job done...and of course i do cheat in as much as i can with the v-start you also get more agility in the offencive end, you can spin off the d-man trying to tie you up, or fake the spin the second time, and go back the other way. :D
