Ankle injury

Have any of you ever got a nagging injury right on the bone on the inside of your ankle. It seems like a ligament or something. Its not bad until you put on your shoes or tie up your skates then it really kills. Do u have any idea what this could be from and recovery time?

Its happened to me and all I could do is sit with ice on my ankle for 4 hours. (happened at nationals and needed to take immediate action) I also use alot of "bengay" a numbing gel. those two things dramatically helped.

ankle injuries seem to take forever to heal. I hurt my ankle riding or rather crashing off my mountain bike.. heard a couple pops and all.. ended up with a pretty severe sprain...I also had to ride 8 miles back to the car which Im sure didn't help.

your feet/ankles have a low blood circulation which slows down the healing process..or I 've told but it makes sense ..also do whatever you can to keep the swelling down. be patient

Hey guys, since you guys are on the topic, I wanted to ask if anyone has ever had a wrist injury that took forever to heal? It's been three months since I hurt my wrist, and I'd say it's lingering at 90% healed, but that last 10% just won't seem to budge.

And yes, I did get it looked at by a doctor. There wasn't a fracture apparently, but when I put pressure on it at certain angles, it aches...what gives?

I had/have something very similar. The short answer is they think I may have torn a ligament or tendon (I can't remember), but it was about two years after the collision on the ice, so it had healed somewhat. My pain is on the back of the hand just above the wrist bone, whenever I bend my hand back to far or with too much pressure.

I never had it operated on because the rehab would be four to five months, and I've been able to control the pain by using a wrap with tape for games or working out. That said, it's been going on four years now and I hate the concept of having periodic pain in my wrist for the rest of my life, so maybe I'll have it fixed one day.

Me too. Going on 6 years now. I usually wrap tape around my wrist before games.

Got into the doctor today and there is nothing they can do. What he did say that since i have flat feet the tendon has farther to stretch over the bone and that is what is causing the pain. Guess i am going to have to orthodics.

happened to me this summer, 2nd degree sprain

doc told me to take a month off but we were in the playoffs for roller so I took 1 game off then played after taking T3.

Not a good idea. I tried to block a shot, my wheels got stuck on the floor weird and I foot went one way and my body the other.....

now it's October and it still hasn't healed....I should have stayed off it like I was told to.

i sprained 2 ligaments in my ankle back in late september. after 2 weeks off work and what is now a month of physiotherapy (3x a week).. my ankle is almost back to normal. i've been able to skate recreationally, but still waiting for clearance to play hockey.

my only problem now is i can't run without a sharp pain on the inside of my ankle shooting up my leg. i sprained both the inside ligament and the outside ligament, no damage to the back ligaments.

this is supposed to be my last week of physiotherapy unless i have a setback this week, which I doubt. have to try explaining this to the physiotherapist, my ankle can't seem to absorb the shock of running or going downstairs quickly.

I have been using my new skates (Vapor XXX) for the past two weeks, the first few times I felt some minor pain on my outside ankle bones (which are pretty pronounced), which was no big deal.

After skating a couple of nights ago I have a lot of pain on only the right (foot) outside ankle bone when I put on my skates (and even with mid-top hiking boots-basically anything that rubs my anke bone).

I remember coming off the ice and being in pain as I walked back to the locker room (again only on the right ankle).

Is this just an issue of break in or should I take some time off from skating?

I should also point out that these are custom skates with extra thick ankle pads.

I went skiing last Saturday, we were hitting this 30 foot table top that had a really shitty landing. Right before it went down there was this huge hump, any ways I cased this about 3 times the last time i racked out pretty hard and I could barely put any weight on my foot. I went to the hospital and no breaks or any thing. So its a week later and I still can't skate without a ton of pain around my ankle area. Aparently the bone has been bruised very badly.

Well, ankles are especially susceptable to abuse. The basic fix, assuming nothing is seriously torn up is

1) Ice, elevation, go easy until the swelling is down

2) Some light back and forth type of exercises. Nice and easy at first. After a few days, go a little faster back and forth. The idea is to go as hard as you can WITHOUT feeling any serious pain (which would indicate you are reinjuring it with your over agressive exercises). You can put in other things, like balancing on one foot, body weight squats, etc.

3) After you can do some fairly fast forward backward stuff, and can balance for say 30 seconds or so, you then do some lateral stuff, easy at first, but faster if the pain is not bad. Try balancing on more unstable surfaces, like the flat side of a bosu balance ball.

4) After that, some serious lateral plyometrics, balance on more unstable surfaces, one legged squats, etc.

In all of the above, you need to be taking some sort of anti-inflamatory, like alleve (but no more than two tabs a day unless a doc tells you otherwise--you might need those kidneys someday), and icing down the ankle for 10 minutes after the exercise period. An ace bandage may also be a good idea, expecially at first.

Even better than above, go find a good physical therapist to design a recovery program for you. But many do not have the $ for that.

And do not rush it. Recovery can easily take 5 weeks!

Ankle injuries are the worst thing ever

I sprained my ankle on a harmless looking trip. Needless to say I was out for 8 weeks and still had difficulty walking but now it's fine.

Remember to ice it constantly but not for too long, keep it elevated, try to stay off it as much as possible, and yeah basically what biff44 said.

I appreciate the advice. As much as I wanted to get some ice time this weekend, I figure I will give it time to heal so that I don't mess up my ankle any more than it already is. Patience is not one of my stronger virtues.

remember RICE rules:

Rest

Ice

Compression

Elevation

ankles are about the worst things to hurt, I still have a prob with mine with weather changes from a vicious sprain ten years ago. Aleve/Ibuprofen is also your friend
