QandA

Crosby Rookie of the Month

Recommended Posts

It's wrong how Ovechkin isn't getting the credit he deserves because he's not as hyped as Crosby. Ovechkin has just about no one to play with other than Kolzig, and is Russian. I've been impressed by Ovechkin, Crosby not so much.

it really could have gone either way. crosby had a few more points but ovechkin had a better plus minus and had a short handed goal. i would have given it to alex but its a close call as they both have impressed me.

how has crosby not inpressed you he's tied for 13th in scoring, he's got 15 points in 12 games( same amount of points as kovalchuk, naslund, alfredson) and he's only 18, ovechkin is 20, Wait t'ill crosby is 20 he will be way better.

Ovechkin also plays with Brian Willsie, Jeff Freisen and Jeff Halpern. Not Rechhi, Palffy Leclair and Mario.

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Ovechkin had one more point than Crosby last month. Considering the offensive explosion this season, I would say that one of the two goalies deserved it more.

It's not really unfair at all. It'd be interesting to see what they take into account when they figure these things out though, and since no one knows how exactly they decide (other than points, +/-) we can't say if it is unfair or not. But really, when you look at it realistically, Crosby does have more points than Ovechkin. Ovechkin is nearly 2 years older. It seems so simple to me..

But I think we all know that if Ovechkin got it and Crosby didn't there would be people bitching, and vice versa (as we see here)

i dont think the whole "but crosby is two years younger" excuse should be taken into consideration. when they hand out the heart, selke, conn smythe age has no bearing, its the nhl. if stajan was like "its not fair gary roberts nailed me, hes older" maybe quinn would cut him and say have fun in midgets...

Neither Crosby or Ovechkin has ever played in the NHL, although I would argue that the Superleague is much better than the Q. Crosby is a playmaker, but I haven't seen him finishing yet. Ovechkin has been putting up highlight real goals since day 1.

If Ovechkin was North American he would of got it. Its bullshit.

Sidney Crosby PIT GP 12 G 2 A 13 - 4

(Playing on a much more talented team)

Alexander Ovechkin GP 11 G 8 A 5 +1

(Who is on the Washington team ?)

And yeah Pittsburgh just sucks what a joke. They are like the new NY RANGERS.

ALEXANDER THE GREAT RULES !

Agreed with Mattiopiela.

A little OT here so I do apologise - Kovy, I heard about your stickhandling skills. Any videos and advice to show for it? (PM me)

Ovechkin= one man show, crosby, not so.

Ovechkin has to be a one man show. It would be interesting to see what would happen if they switched places. Could Crosby create for himself and could Ovechkin work with other talented players?

I disagree. Crosby is the much more publicized player, but he did have more points. If A-O has more points next month maybe he is the rookie of the month.

I'd put my money on the fact that he pissed off just about everybody in Canada during the World Juniors last year. He ran his mouth, got SCHOOLED in the final and then left the game with a sore pinky or something.

Members of the Hockey Press have a good memory and hold grudges.

There is a lesson there for him though. "Shut your hole and do your talking on the ice."

It's funny how the opinions polarized when you come to talk of Ovechkin and Crosby...

And by the way the numbers are reflecting the team those guys are playing for :

- Ovechkin has more goal : of course... he doesn't have talented teammates (always on the right place) to set for a goal... so he tries by himself

- Crosby has more assist : just look at the roster... plenty of go-to-guys waiting at the right place to net the puck...so he passes

I think it's foolish to compare those 2. Very different style, very different situtation...

The only true thing ?

They would rock the world if they played in the same team ! B)

The recent crop of Russian talent has been absolutely stunning (read: Kovalchuk & Ovechkin), but correct me if I'm wrong in saying that these youngsters have terrible attitudes and are cocky little f'ers (read: Kovalchuk & Ovechkin) that need to be decked...that was completely irrelevant, but I wanted to say it anyway.

All the A-O boosters, quityerbitchin', he'll earn a rookie of the month sometime this season. And if you don't think Crosby is anything special, you guys are kidding yourselves.

I do agree with whoever it was that wanted to see Lundqvist or Labarbera win the honours though - these two guys have been head and shoulders above some of the most established goalies of the last decade, including Brodeur, Belfour, Joseph and Khabibulin. They both have save percentages well above .900 when the rest of the league is hovering around .890, one of these guys surely should have taken the nod.

I take it that Ovechkin and Ilya are good friends of yours to make that statement.

Actually, aside from the WJC (I believe) a year ago and his atrocious actions there, Ovechkin has been pretty good in terms of how he has portreyed himself.

Perhaps... But like I said, the press holds grudges. If he has truly cleaned up all the non-sense, it is a shame he canot get good press outside of Washington.

Good press? He doesn't get much coverage at all.

The overwhelming hate of Crosby/Fleury on this board is overwhelming.

How often does the guy who's more of a playmaker between two guys with close stats not get an award?

I belive he hurt his shoulder, and actually missed time over in russia for it. not exactly a sore pinky. One thing I've noticed with Ovechkin is he is extremy strong on his skates. Did he even get knocked down during that tournament?

I think that Fleury would have been better off going to almost any other franchise, they haven't handled his development well at all. Conversely, it seems they're doing everything possible to ensure Crosby is a success. I don't like or hate either player, I'm just not impressed by the franchise.

You are right though, the goal scorer almost always wins the award.
