Buying skates without trying on

Recommended Posts

OK, so I am trying to get a new pair of skates. I tried the 4 LHS closest to me, which are all about an hours drive from my place in traffic.

All 4 said they don't carry my size in the E width.

They can order them, but if they order them, its a sale, unless there is a defect.

I have a pair of CCMs at the minute, they are 11.5 D. I need a wider one.

I cannot try a pair on, but the 11.5 fit fine lengthwise.

What should I do. I am in a position where I can't get to try on before I buy.

Should I just go for a CCM 11.5 E that can be heat molded.

Its a bit of a quandry. I couldn't find a thread like this, if there is one, I apologize

Cheers

Some on-line merchants will accept returns as long as you do not sharpen the blades. You might even find a good deal. HockeyMonkey.com seems to have some good prices in their closeout section.

I, too, am looking for a new pair of skates so I can practice with my son. I am looking at CCM 652, size 9E. Anyone have comments on these?

What do people think of buying off ebay?

i had the 652's for a while ('03 model) and for what i paid for em, i'm glad. it was pretty much worth every penny. 652 has good durability and pretty good performance. at least, that's my opinion.

Bauer skates aren't available in E width for regular retail skates. It's whether D or EE. The Vapor is a pretty narrow skate if compared to old Tacks. Therefore, I'm pretty sure E Tacks and EE Vapor will equal to the same thing. It's just how companies choose to call their width. Easton has Regular and Wide, CCM D and E, BNH and Mission D and EE, Graf Narrow, Regular, and Wide.

At the end of the day, it's just a question of perception, but it doesn't necessarly mean Vapor's EE is wider than Tacks' E.

In you case, if Tacks's D was too narrow, go EE in Vapor. The only way you could get a pair of E width Vapor's would be from a pro fitted return, or to order yourself a pair of custom made E width...

Jimmy wolf,im pretty sure he wants CCM ,not bauer.

But he doesn't work for CCM. ;)

I actually find a Bauer vapor EE to be similar to a CCM D

You might want to try finding a cheap or old pair on ebay. The $50 or $60 you spend to confirm the size might be a good investment.

I think epuck.com will take them back, no restocking fee.
