I got to see an advanced screening of it at michigan state about a week ago. The security was crazy because it was an advanced screening. They searched bags and made everyone turn off their cell phones before they let them in. I thought the movie was pretty good. Not as much actual war scenes as I was expecting. It was about the Desert Storm-Iraq war in 1990-91...not the current war.

I think the movie will either be hollow or will suck compared to the book. I would recommend reading the book after you see the movie so you won't be disappointed.

i find it interesting that people have said "i like it for kanye west, sountrack etc" "not much war scenes" but no one has said "i want to see it for jamie foxx, who won an oscar and should be good." or jake gyllenhaal who is also a good actor

If I wanted to see this movie it'd have been because Donnie Darko's in it. Even if he's made "Bubble Boy." Or "Day After Tomorrow." Or "The Good Girl." Nevermind, I still don't want to see it.

I was just trying to tell people that it wasn't a shoot 'em up, rambo style movie. I agree with you about the actors...its just too bad that in hollywood its usually explosions and guns that sell tickets, not actors. I went into it thinking thats what it was going to be and was pleasantly surprised.

It's alot easier to show an explotion in the preview than a great "acting" moment. Anyone who saw the trailor knew Jamie Foxx was in it.

It was a dope movie, but absolutely NOTHING like I expected it to be. I was right ripped for so many people to get shot, but I don't think I saw one fight scene (except inside the marines barracks)..

It was a really in depth kind of movie, it made you think. Definetely a good one though

I saw it. I think it was OK, definatly not what I expected. I thought it was going to be a war movie, not what it was. I kinda thought it was more of a documentary or something like that when I left the theater. There is some weird parts, and some cool parts, and it does really make you think. If thats what marine/war life is like, I'm not so sure I wanna think about enlisting anymore.

I read the book about 6 months ago and could not figure out what all the hype had been about after I finished it.

With few exceptions, all my reading is non-fiction and a large chuck of that is military in nature.

I thought this book sucked. I kept waiting for it to get insteresting and it never did. For those that haven't read the book or watched the movie, let me summarize for you.

As a kid he wants to be a Marine. His parents won't let him join so he has to wait six more months, he complains about it.

He screws around with women, and he complains about it.

The Marines pick on him, and he complains about it.

The Marines tell him what to do, and he complains about it.

He becomes a Scout/Sniper, and he complains about it.

He goes to Iraq, and he complains about it.

Throughtout the story sprinkle in some complianing about his family and you have "Jarhead."

Essentially, the author made a big mistake enlisting, and instead of taking his lumps like a man, he wrote a book to bitch about it. All his complaining made this a very unpleasant book to read. I found it more painful to read than the Iliad.

I was actually hoping that there would be more action scenes in it, I was quite dissapointed with it. there was like 20 shots fired during the whole movie and that was when the scouts were practicing.

I really enjoyed Homer's epics.
