switching to Tour skates

Recommended Posts

I have a Mission Proto VS skate and it'll need to be replace. I want to try a non hi-lo skate. Been hearing good reviews on some of the Tour skates, Especially interested in the Blue Max, only worry is that I've heard the boot is low cut. How low is it compare to the Mission line? Anyone who have tried both type have problem switching over? Thanks in advance.

ps. I'm a 25.5cm feet size. What size would that be in Tour?

I switched from Mission D1C to Tour G-90 and have never looked back. I know the Tour current offerings are vastly different from their current inventory, but IMHO Mission's quality at that time was no where near tours. For example my Tours have reinforced eyelets where the d1c had a novel piece of s!@## to hold laces. No boot seperation issues, to caps are solid plastice. I also prefer more wheel in the front than hilo. Wether its a 76 or an 80 up front I prefer a more solid four on the floor if you will. My 0.02

I used to use Mission Proto V, but then used the old NikeQuest 1's, before switching to Tour Red Max last season.

They are a great skate, althougha little heavier than the other 2, but when using the nikes again you can really notice the difference!!

They are cut much lower than the nikes or missions and i had a bit of trouble getting used to it, i now tape round the top of the skates to keep it tighter higher up, which does the trick for me.

Hope that helps you.

Definalty worth a pop tho i'd say

You know that's what I didn't want, to have to mod/tape the skate to make it fit the way I like. I live up here in the great north west and I haven't seen any of the local sports stores that stocks the Tour brand so I can't tried them out, that's why I'm so hesitant to get one. Maybe I'll just take a leap and give it a try. Thanks for the advice, you guys did help me out.

ps. When you switch from Vi to the Tour, did your get a performance boost?

Cop...The VI was a lower-to mid range boot if I remember correctly. So switching to a Tour Blue Max or Beemer, yes you will get a performance boot. They are much more responsive boots. Stiffer, different materials. Plus, the Hum'er chassis is supposed to add speed and grip. I think you will notice performance differences.

Yeh, like #96 said, switching did give a noticeable difference, espcially with speed and turning/stopping. When i switched back to my old skates for a training session i really noticed how much easier it is to achieve greater speeds with the tours.

You're kidding, these $300 skates are lower end models?

http://inlinesports.com/skate_temp.cfm?productid=protovi2000

Well I thought they're higher end, they felt and performed higher.

Upto today, these are the best skates I've own. Before this I went through 3 Bauers(plastic, h5, h9). I've decided. It's either the Blue Max or Mission 950. I really want to give Tour a try but the low cut boot scares me. With the 950, the laces. I'll order either one this week. Eitherway it'll be good upgrade. Thanks Dudes!

My location is Canucksville. Go Canucks!!

Those skates were not worth 300 bucks. They only have a stiffness rating of 5.3, abec-5 bearings, and the chassis wasn't the top one at the time. It even says "for the intermediate player" at the bottom. My Proto VSI Carbons were like $299, and they were much better.

I think they have inflated the price on this site, so that the sale price seems even better.

I dunno, maybe somone on here got those skates back in the day and can confirm the price.

I tried on the Tour Code 1's the other day (when I was picking up my 9500's) and was not impressed at all with that skate. The boot literally felt paper-thin on my ankle...seriously. Compared to the 9500 it felt like a beginner's skate. The Beemer and BlueMax weren't too bad though. I feel that Tour took a step backwards with the Code 1.

I have just upgraded from some CCM Rush skates to the new Tour Code 1`s and the code`s are fantastic. Give loads of support nice and light, the 80mm on all wheels take some getting used to, along with the speed i can get up, i didnt know i could skate that fast and i am not the worlds fastest skater either.

I dont think you will be disapointed if you bought some.

We're talking about the same Code 1's, right? ;)

I like my Code 1s. They are paper thin like you say. And stiff, but not super stiff. The Mission 9500 are super stiff everywhere. Whereas, the Code1s are stiff in the bottom portion of the skate, towards the heel.

I do question the durability though. I have had some issues with my Code1s and I could see them breaking down in relatively short amount of time compared to other great skates I have had.

The 9500s, however, and as Justin mentioned, are built to last. They just feel well-built. Case in point, I showed them to the guy that runs my LHS, and after looking at them for 5 minutes, he said, "They look like they are put togther really well. I should bring some of these things in." And he's right. Just looking at them, pushing in the sides a bit, you can tell these were well-built.

I need to replace my old missions with Hi-Lo, Abec 7 bearings and 76a wheels (boots torn to hell and both chassis are broke at the ankle)...and was thinking of either the Bauer 30-70 or Tour BlueMax.

Thoughts on Bauer 30-70?

With the Bauer's though, I'd need to beef up the bearings and am concerned about the One up chassis. Anyone use this skate? If so, how comfy/durable is the boot? I'm used to the Hi-Lo, is the One-Up a decent chassis, or would it be better to throw an 80 in the back slot and just go with Hi-Lo performance.

Thoughts on Tour ?

With the BlueMax though, I'm concerned about the Hummer chassis. Anyone use this skate? If so, how comfy/durable is the boot? I'm used to the Hi-Lo, is the the speed/grip increase all that it's reported to be? Does turning and other tight maneuvers suffer due to the size of the wheels?

I'm ready for more speed, but don't want maneuverability to suffer too much. I'm leaning toward the Tours which would probably be fine out of the box. If I go the Bauer route, i'd likely put swiss bearings in to get the speed up, hoping the tighter maneuverability is all it's cracked up to be with the One-Up chassis.

Why would you go away from Mission's? This year's line is our best ever, and the people who have skated the skates will agree..You should really look at this years Mission Skates.

I think the 3090 would be a much better comparison with the Blue Max...

Having been through the 2090 and now 3090..no issues with the chassis..sometimes i use a 78 in the back..sometimes an 80 ..i do like that little bit of a heel rocker...

skated some Blue Max and Beemers when they were just rolling out but didn't push it too hard..liked the boot though..reminded me of a Supreme...

of course..you should just try stuff on and see what works..

haha...

...similar to a 5090 style skate I believe..so if that or an 8090 are around..should be similar...

I was a little surprised it didn't really catch fire ..while @ HG, it was outselling everything by nearly 4:1 from Feb to May before I left..

Which one was doing the outselling 4:1?

Calm down Justin, there's nothing to be so nervous about.

Buy the skate that is right for you. No one brand or model is correct for everyone. Mission makes good skates as well as other companies. There are some great deals on the internet, just make sure that you can send the skates back (return or exchange policy) if they aren't what you expected. My advise is to pay special attention to the comfort as well as performance, they go hand in hand.

Don't worry, I am not nervous...I have said before that I would rather people buy Tour than any other brands. Tour Supports the sport and I respect that...It was more of a joke than anything...

I have always said to buy the skate that best fits your foot...

The 2090 when it debuted, nothing against the others skates..and it was the new one at the time, Mission had launched in Dec, Tour in Feb/March, but it was surprising to see it hold its own so well in an area dominated by the other 2 companies

Its Bonkers i have tried a few pairs of mission skates on in the past and for some reason they just destroy my feet, i have tried to get with em but alas no good for me.

Stick on pair of tours and there like a nice worn pair of slippers.

Very Strange.
