Or the companies on the boards are the sponsors of the rink. They probably donate supplies, money, etc., so they can advertise on the boards.

A guy on my brothers hockey team has one of those in his basement, his dad made it. He bought the old boards form one of my local arenas and put them up. No ice though, which is too bad, but still sweet. Also I was just wondeirng if that was one of the rinks on Hockey Day In Canada?

Yeah, it is actually. Its really fun because you can go down there and just RIP shots. They have doors to the benches and if you turn around from the benches its right at the TV, so it's just really cool. I MIGHT be able to get pictures, but it's not a guarntee.

That is in Edmonton, there was a backyard rink building contest here and it got a lot of time on the news which would explain the advertisments.
