Vector vs. Vapor XX Skates

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to buy new skates, I've tried some Bauer Vapor XX and CCM Vectors, but and they were both a good fit, but I'm looking for something that's going to last like 3 or 4 years. I play rec hockey 2 to 3 times a week which skate qould last longer. I have a buddy who was already on his second pair of Vectors and had busted the toe cap on his newer pair after 2 games, he does play University level hockey, but I don't know anyone with Vapor XX's to compare them to. Which skate do you think would have the best durability.

Yes as posted in another topic....

The Vapors have more performance than the 8090's but

the 8090's have more durability than the vapors.

If your only playing rec hockey, then spend your money on durability rather than performance.

8090's are not very durable. I bought a pair 3 weeks ago, the second game, a skate blade cut through the tongue and into my foot. I also wore some socks with a little bit of stiching exposed, and that actually rubbed off the lining, however, they are a great besides that

I don't know about 3-4 years, but I can tell you the Vectors are way more durable than the XXs. I've had mine since they came out and they still look brand new after playing on them 3-4 times a week. I was actually hesitant on buying them because I feared they wouldn't be durable, but they're tanks. They also take a puck suprisingly well...

Neither.....Missions, Old Bauers/CCM's, and Classic Grafs are durable and will last you...The type of construction these two skates use is not known for its durability... They are built to be light.

I would definitly have to say Vectors. I've seen way to many Vapor customers come back to our shop complaining about the durability factor. The main area ive seen them break is on the back of the skate the triangular piece on the very top. It comes apart and the plastic within cuts into people calfs. Im planning on buying a set of vectors as soon as our shop gets the information on the employee purchases. I dont expect the 8090s to be any more durable than the XXs because they are actually LIGHTER and come from the same company. The bauer actually told us not to tell anyone about that which seems curious because it could be a selling point, probably because they want the XX to remain thier flagship skate. Also, if all you are concerned with is durability, i would check out easton too. I havent seen many problems with the boot. (Parabolic steel is crap) Its true that they are much heavier than the XXs, 8090s and Vectors, but slap a Custom+ on there and you would be good to go. Ive never used eastons so ask about the long term usage of the Z-AIR (or Comp; its the same skate basicly, just $10 more)

That is crazy. The 8090 is not lighter than the XX and I have seen TONS of Easton skates come back due to boot break down. I trust Easton least out of major skate companies. Easton's fall apart and the boot creases
