Holiday Promotions & Ideas

Recommended Posts

Guys,

Great site here---a customer of mine turned me on to the site this week. I run a small hockey pro shop here in North Carolina. This will be my first Holiday Season/Rush and was curious what some of the other stores/store owners do around the holidays for promotions and special items. What are some of your top sellers and stocking stuffer ideas? Is there anything I should 'load up' on in my last orders before the holidays?

Thanks Guys!

Dan

Shirts, hats and other clothing sold well for us. You also might want to pimp your gift certificates or gift cards, they sell well for indecisive parents in the week or two leading up to x-mas. I've been thinking of doing a "wish book" for kids to make a list to make things easier on the parents.

You could maybe do a sale on some of the sticks you carry. Or like wooden sticks that you sell like buy one get one 50% etc.. Just my .02$'s

I was actually thinking about that the other day, making a registry for a hockey store......it'd be a good way for kids to get what they want and still have some element of surprise.

Gift certificates or gift registries are the best thing to do for a hockey-related present. There are so many factors that go into hockey equipment (size/color/fit/feel..etc) that it's usually best for the nitpicky player to pick it out himself.

Good stocking stuffers that my LHS moves well during the Holidays are: SmartHockey Balls and other training aids, tape, laces, inline wheels/accessories, sharpening stones, socks, branded clothing (which I now have WAY too much of....thanks Mom!) As a 28 yr. old hockey player, these little things are the perfect hockey accesories that I can always use. I'd rather make a larger purchase on my own....wouldn't want Mom to get me the wrong flex OPS.

I would definately recommend the Pensacola Ice Pilots practice jerseys. Those things are tanks and I am very happy with mine. You might have luck selling those here.

P.S. the way things are here in Texas, you should proobably load up on pink skate laces.

Pink, what the heck? All the little boys think it's cool or something?

btw, I'm 15 (b-day in 2 days) and think that that is awful. Though, for inline people tend to like to stand out, whereas ice is more traditional (except for sticks).

Are you kidding! Moms up here can pick a stick with the best of them. :D

In addition to all the items others have mentioned, I always make up gift grab bags, Like a $10 bag with mix rolls of tape, spare laces , mouthguard, etc. I also do a $25 bag with some higher value items. Go to the dollar store and buy the xmas see thru plastic bags, stuff the stuff inside and tie with red ribbon. Also, full a water bottle with Chocolate kisses or other candy.

Remore controlled zambonies from Bendos sell well, as well as Bendos.

Once the frenzy starts, they'll pretty much buy anything. Those desperation sales are sweet. :D

Good luck>

I agree with the gift cards idea and things of that nature. I remember getting sharpening cards in the stocking and those always come in handy.

Thanks for all the ideas---keep 'em coming! I will definitely do the 'goody' bags and push the gift certs.

Being here in NC the apparel market is hit or miss---anything in particular selling well for you guys? I've add some luck with the ChalkTalk hockey novelty shirts, but the branded stuff (Mainly Easton) hasn't done well for me.

Hey Drew--just let me know when you're ready for more Ice Pilots gear--as I still have quite a few of them (navy, white, gold, green).

People always in my experience are looking for something that says Hockey on it.

I love promoting my store. Every year I do a batch of sweatshirts with my logo on them.. but it's gota say hockey on it. I do hats also cheep ones

I don’t make a dime on them but I love to see people wearing them.

Also try…

Boot dryers

Sharping cards are the best

Gift certificates

Skating sox sell like you wouldn’t believe!!!

soakers

Toiletry bags with tape in them.

You guys are right on with the gift registry!!! Huge success

I'm sure you make a little bit more through this, because of the indirect marketing.
