Bauer 8090 Fit VS Classic Silver Supreme

Recommended Posts

I know this has been discussed many times but I'm ordering the skates online and I would like to know if the fit is comparable.

I ALWAYS support my LHS but in my case, I can get the skates from hockeymonkey shipped for $250 USD whereas all the hockey shops in Vancouver area are still selling the skate for $500 CDN. The gap in prce is just too high for me to justify buying it locally, and I don't want to go into the LHS and pretend I'm buying the skate and waste their time and lie to them.

Currently I'm in 8.5EE size for my classic silvers.

TIA

You could going in the store and ask to try them on and after tip the employe who helped you. but make sure their are not busy.

actually that doesnt' sound like a bad idea. I think ill do that tomrorow. I hope they dont find it rude if I were to tip them :S

awesome to hear!

I like my classic silvers but I think it's finally time to upgrade...and with the 8090 prices dropping now I think it's a very good opportunity for me to finally get a chance to purchase them

Thanks for the replies guys

If I ran a LHS, I would offer some sort of package for people who buy skates online. For example, for $50 you receive a proper fitting, heat mold, and 3 sharpenings. They're not stupid- they know people buy things online. But how can they blame them? I just purchased a pair of 8090's for $229 (online) and my LHS wants $475 (including tax).

I would have no problem spending a bit more to buy it locally- but double the price is too much.

Just received my 8090's today. I wore a 9EE for Vapor XI's and went with a 9D in the 8090's- also had them "stretched." While I haven't used them on the ice yet, I will tell you that they seem to fit better than the Vapor's sizing, especially the length. If they work as well as I think they will, I may just have to buy a second pair to put away as Bauer is discontinuing the 8090!

yes, but why encourage people not to buy stuff from your store? If you make it a pain in the butt not to, then people will just fork the extra 50 or so over.

Actually, I find it easier to buy online. The only item I am hesitant to purchase (online) are sticks I have never used before. Both because of uncertainty (design/feel) the the high cost of shipping sticks back (due to tall box). In my experience, it's not just $50- I just saved ocer $250-more than half off- on my skates. FWIW

Oh by no means am I saying it's wrong. But if you were someone who was trying to sell stuff, it wouldn't make sense to encourage people NOT to buy from your store, you know?

Ordering online in Canada from a US site that ships via UPS or Fedex often doesn't save you a lot of money even if they have a good price on the skates. Fedex and UPS both have large brokerage fees (around $40) just for taking the skates over the boarder and figuring out how much taxes and duty are owed. You'll then get hit with at least taxes and possibly duty, plus you're paying shipping fees. Add that all up and the savings quickly shrink. Now if you can buy something from someone in the US that will ship via USPS and mark the item as a gift then you can save some money - USPS only charges a $5 handling fee or something like that. The best option is find a great deal within Canada either at a local store or online. I have nothing against ordering online and do so myself, but I'd advise against Canadian buyers ordering things from the US from sites that ship via UPS or Fedex in most cases.

You're crazy - you would buy skates online but not sticks?

I went from my E60 to the 8090, what a great jump.. the skate is so much better, it feels better when I skate.. and it's just super.. I wore a E60 5.5E, but it's too small for my kind of wide feet.. I tried the 6D Vapor XX, but there is something wrong at my ankle, I have tried the Vapor XX 6EE, just way too big for me! So I came here, read as much articles and ask as much as I could and went for an educated guess going for 5.5EE. I ask my friend to buy it from Vancouver and bring it back to Hong Kong for me (there is no LHS in Hong Kong carrying Bauer)

Wala... so good!! and i feel much much better skating with it then my E60. I always think that if I could try 5EE then I am more sure of the size.. ( I like a snug fit ) the E60 is so tight and makes me feel how tight fiting skate works and I like the feel of itl.. but the 8090 is just so GREAT, only if I could try the 5EE....

well still, my LHS is selling it for $500 where as $249 US plus FREE shipping I'm still goign to save a boat load considering I have to pay taxes regardless of where I purchase it

Goalie Heaven in Toronto is selling a bunch of new 8090's on ebay for $299 Canadian. They have a few different sizes. You'd have to pay for shipping, but you'd avoid duty and brokerage fees. Cyclonetaylor also has a bunch online for $249 US and is based in your area.

I ordered some roller hockey skates from hockey giant a few years ago for $199 and by the time the brokerage fee, taxes, duty, shipping and exchange rate were factored in I paid over $300. The same skates were being sold at the Just Hockey near my place for $599 plus tax so I still got a great deal, but if I had known about the UPS brokerage charge I was going to be hit with I would've made an effort to find them within Canada or buy them from someone in the US that would ship USPS. If I didn't have any luck I would've still bought them from hockeygiant.

I can see why you'd want to get the skates for $249 if free shipping is available (you should check if this applies to Canadian orders as many US sites offer free shipping to the continental US only) and your local hockey store sells them for $500. Just be prepared for the $40 brokerage fee and possible duty charges. If I were you I'd pick them up from goalie heaven on ebay or Cyclonetaylor if they have your size to avoid potential duty charges and the delay that the Canada/US border can sometimes cause.

the $249 for cyclone is a US only deal. You cannot get that price instore and they refuse to ship to Canadians for that price. It is "their attempt to fight against the US market" but I think it's retarded because if a Canadian consumer sees that price on their site and goes into the store, only to see the skate priced at $469 CDN and then have the people in the store tell them:

1) they won't give you that price in store

2) they won't ship the skates to you in Canada if you order off the website

I would tell Cyclones to go suck it and because of that I refuse to ever shop at cyclone taylor. The only store I support locally is the Hockey Shop in surrey andn they still have the 8090 at $319 USD and won't price match, which I understand if it is below cost to meet the $249 price.

That cyclonetaylor policy is dumb. They won't match their own price - they'll sell to a US internet customer for a great price, but they won't give the same deal to a Canadian customer. With that kind of policy I wouldn't shop there either.

yeh it really pissed me off at first.

I went in to check out the skate and I saw the price and I was like...."oh hey you guys have it for $249 US ont he site, how come it's $469 in store?" and the guy tells me it's US pricing only and they're only competing against other US retailers

So I'm like......ok I guess I'll go home and order it online. And then he goes "don't you even bother, if you're in canada they'll never sell it to you for that price. We're going to charge you the in store price." And I'm standing there like......WTF, you're telling me you as a Canadian store will sell to US customers at a cheaper cost and you must at least be making some profit or WHY the hell would you sell it to lose money.....yet you won't give CANADIAN consumers who frequent your store the same price?! I know US retailers and Canadian retaliers pay different prices for the equipment from the manufacturer....but Cyclone Taylor has NO stores beyond the 3 in BC....so yeh

So I stand for a few more minutes looking at the skate and walk straight out without another word and drive home and call hockey monkey and placed my order with them....

done and done
