twistoffate19 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2005 I had a few quick questions on anyone who knows a lot about golf equipment. Ever since the season ended for me (Windsor, Ontario) I've continued my instruction with my instructor at the Dome range, and the heated stalls on "tolerable" days. Yesterday he set me up on his new computer system. These were my average results:Driver Head Speed: 131 m.p.h.Driving Distance: 362 yards. After this, he said he would like me to start training for long drive competitions. He did however suggest that I get a custom made driver, made for long drive type competitions. Can anyone recommend any brands that specialize in these types of drivers? I am currently using a TaylorMade R510 TP, 8.5 degrees, and X-Stiff Aldila NV65.
prenny207 1 Report post Posted November 30, 2005 Driving Distance: 362 yards. good god man!!!my question... i didn't think the dome's were that large, that you could get that distance. is that what you hit when you play a course?

Z-Unit14 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2005 Cobra and Bang are 2 brands that I am aware of who sponsors long drive competitors. The LD champ that lives here is a Cobra staff pro.
twistoffate19 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2005 I'm 6'1'' 220lbs. When I'm practicing at the dome, I get setup on the computer, so they they can get my speeds, launch angles, and distances.Thank you Z-Unit. I had heard of Bang, but I didn't know Cobra was a LD sponser.
#28 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 Ping makes good drivers and so does Cleveland. The Ping G5 is suppose to be a great driver and the Cleveland Launcher 460 Comp looks pretty impressive as well. Go to your local golf shop and ask to get custom fitted, give them your swings specs and speed, and they will find the right setup for you. Also, since you are crushing the ball with your Taylormade, why not stick with that driver? or, if you like Taylormade and want to upgrade, take a look at the R5 dual and R7 quad models. WINGS 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 Nearly every new driver is made for distance these days. Long-drive competitors usually use longer shafts.

I actually have an R7 Quad driver. It is my backup. I've tried the R5 Dual's and I don't like them. I'm going to be heading out to this custom club fitting shop and driving range within the next month or so. I'll update with what I end up getting from them, when it happens. Chadd 916 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 The LD guys used to use lower lofts, not sure if that's still true. I used to top out around 122mph on the system back home when I was playing regularly and I was usually over 300 but well short of you.
Z-Unit14 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 I haven't had my swing speed checked for a while, but last time it was 108mph and that was me swinging out of my shoes. This last season I was consistently between 290 and 310. I think you're right about the lower lofts Chadd, I'm pretty sure they still use them. Or they have different ones for different conditions. If you are looking for a new long ball driver twist then I highly recommend the Cobra 454 Comp, or Cobra 460. I also have an r7, but have hit the cobras on a regular basis.
twistoffate19 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2005 Chadd, you're right about the lower lofts. I went to my local range (heated closed in stalls!) with my regular instructor today, and he brought one of his driver's from a former student. 4.5 degrees, 52 in. shaft, XX Stiff. I swear the ball probably carried 330 when I hit it square. It felt really wierd at first, but I got the hang of it near the end of my second bucket. I believe the clubhead with some sort of Bang model.
