Fear Factory - Edgecrusher

Thanks for the reminder! I almost forgot about FF, I liked a number of their songs.

I like the opening score to the movie "The Rock," it usually gets me pumped up in general. Another movie score favorite is "Crimson Tide," awesome. I've always had a soft spot for instrumentals and most tunes with good (i.e. heavy) percussion. The Mortal Kombat soundtracks were/are two of my favorites.

You could probably add Cyberwaste to that list. There is some great new stuff on Archetype.

Another greeat one is du hast. The guitar in it gets you pumped so bad plus its in german!

That's probably the best song to listen to before you go on the ice as your walking out the door. The first probably 30 seconds are perfect for that. Our team listened to that every time we went on the ice.

I had that tape too, I try not to admit it much. Possibly the worst Who cover ever on that tape. "Addicted to that Rush" by Mr Big ranks up there for a driving guitar song. Old RacerX stuff with Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert works too, though the vocals are a bit lacking.

LJack - Billy Sheehan was never in Racer X. Paul Gilbert is arguably the best guitarist out there....

Then why did I see him tour with Racer X? I'm sure that was during the time that the band was falling apart just before Mr Big was formed.

Hmmm.. too much Corona and MK perhaps? ;)

Sheehan never played in RacerX as a member of the band. He may have played a couple shows to sub for Aldrete when they were touring with Talas (Sheehans old band) or DLR. I followed Sheehan (personal idol for me.. I played bass for a long time) and Gilbert religiously through their careers.

Gilbert was/is such a talented guy.. one of the greats for sure. Of course so was Becker (that sucked), Friedman, and all the other Shrapnel kids :)

Last time I saw them Kotzen was subbing for Gilbert and that really sucked. I'm still a big Petrucci and George Lynch fan. I got to do an interview with a friend of mine for her college station and Lycnh went over the alotted time by a mile.

Ooooh Mr. Scary! ;) Lynch is a really cool guy actually. Kotzen for Gilbert in RacerX? yipes. That's like Reb Beach trying to take George's spot... though I heard he did ok...

I met Steve Vai a couple times, he was super nice as well. He and I and a couple friends went through a haunted house/cave thing on Halloween... he was hilarious.

Kotzen was playing in Mr Big, though the rest of the band was there. Vai was just about as rude as he could be when I did a phone interview with him. It was supposed to be 15 minutes but I killed it after 3. In his defense, they do so many interviews during the times around release dates or tour stops that it does get difficult.

John Alderate was ALWAYS the bassist...he is from GIT like Paul. If you saw racer x with Billy, consider yourself blessed as he is the greatest bassist of all time BUT it must have been a one night thing. Kotzen did replace PG in Mr. Big but it was a massive failure. I saw G3 this year and Billy was in Steve Vai's band...Tony Macalpine was playing keyboards!!!!

I like Petrucci's work in general, amazing guitarist and a versatile musician. I like the Liquid Tension Experiment side project he and drummer Mike Portnoy were involved in. The Dream Theater stuff is decent, I liked more of their earlier albums, but Labrie gets on my nerves sometimes.

Portnoy is the most amazing drummer I've ever seen and I've seen more than a few. I was at the one gig early enough to hang out for the sound check and the stuff he was doing was phenominal.

Yea. He used to sharpen my skates while trying to make some money before going on tour. He is real cool and pretty down to earth, too.

Which show were you at? Portnoy did some drum clinics in the past, but none near me unfortunately. I guess I'll have to check out the Dream Theater DVDs as well. I'm fairly certain they have extra footages. The guy's rig is incredible. I swear they have to lower him in from the top with a crane or lift, or some rising platform...

TLA in Philly and the Zodiac Club in Allentown PA, not sure what it's called anymore. The Zodiac club gave me a hard time when I got there but the rep and recognized me from teh TLA show and got me in. I had backstage passes for both gigs.

I listen to afi, because I hate hardcore stuff before hockey. I would rather listen to something that isnt all screaming like we usually listen too. Lately i've been breaking out the old afi too and to get me buzzin and really pumped I listen to rage. They kick ase.
