Feds out of olympics

Recommended Posts

It's kind of a russian thing, the star players almost boycotted the WCH last year. I know that the Russian Hockey Federation isn't too pleased with the money the IIHF and NHL is giving them for their players. They think they diserve more and they almost send their B team last year at the WCH but changed idea at the last minute. Canada had the same problem a while ago but since about a decade. In the recent years there has been more of a patriotic feeling to the guys. They take their pride seriously. Sometimes players just feel that their time has come to step down because they feel that they could not play at that kind of a level. They also have good dept and they could almost send two good teams at those championships and younger players do the job.

And the 82 game season doesn't help either, you can add a max of 28 games for the playoff. It's hard on the body when your not 20 years old.

Hmm, sounds like they don't like the idea of their old linemate running the show

Wasn't the idea of having Bure be GM to attract more talented russian players to come play? That was the main reason I found feds not playing interesting. Mogilny even more so. Mogilny is playing well whenever I see the devils on my center-ice package.

Mogilny has a very bad hip and likely needs the time to rest

Mogilny's never seemed interested in hockey to me, so I wasn't surprised to see him opt out. He always seemed so buisnesslike when he discusses the game.

I've heard Mogilny say he only plays hockey because he's good at it, I think he said it during his time in Toronto. His hip problems don't help him either.

on a side note, that whole Kournikova thing with Bure probably made Fedorov's decision a bit easier.

I thought it was Hull who said that. Or is this quote becoming more famous than the source?

Anyhow Fed's is 36 (I think). He's probably not skating around the rink in 14 seconds anymore.

It was Hull, but it seems like every talented player who isn't playing well or is not a fan favorite is getting tagged with it.

Why won't they play? They're still great players in their prime, aren't they?

Dude, Fedorov and Mogilny just wrapped up their primes. I'd say 25-34 is your window of "prime-ness."

Anyone remember Mogilny bitching about how the lockout or injury or something was costing him a lot of money? I thought that was disgusting, and at the same time, somehow fitting and hilarious for AlMo. "Hey, this is costing me a lotta money! That's what I think of this lockout!"
