Darcy Tucker

Recommended Posts

Just curious if anyone saw hi-lights of the Leafs and Devils game last night...

Tucker and Cam Janssen got into a fight and Tucker took Janssen helmet off and hit him on the head twice..

He got $2500 fine for the incident no suspension...is that fair?

Just wondering considering that Kovalchuk gets a game from throwing his stick in the crowd and Vincent LeCavalier gets a game for high sticking a ranger player..

What do you guys think?

I'm very biased, so keep that in mind. However, I'm pretty shocked that Darcy didn't get suspended. I don't think he necessarily deserved it, but that just seems to be the pattern of the NHL. Yes he ripped the guy's helmet off and hit him with it once (swung twice, didn't look like he hit him the first swing), and then immediately dropped it. Janssen was already cut from a punch before Darcy even got his helmet off. Had Janssen been hurt I could see giving him a couple of games. But to me, it didnt seem like Darcy had really strong intent to beat the guy with his own helmet. It appeared that when he got it off, he realized what he was doing and dropped it. But of course its probably a dangerous play, and giving him a game or two wouldn't have been a bad punishment.

I don't think you can compare this to throwing a stick in the crowd. Throwing anything into the crowd could potentially injure a spectator, and thats bad for business.

On a personal note I was really hoping Darcy wouldn't be suspended. I'm going to the Leafs/Canucks game and I'd be pissed if he wasn't playing.

I'd say next year is Tucker's last year in the league. Give himself a year off to train and be the one man canadian olympic diving team in 08.

And, is anyone honestly surprised that Tucker would do this?

I've seen it done in a ton of fights. Domi used to have it done alot to him when he actually fought, so I wasn't overly surprised he wasn't suspended. The ref yelled at him to drop it or else he would've kept going. He admitted he did it purposely after the game.

I really don't see any relation to this and a stick throwing incident. Sundin also got a 1 game suspension for throwing his stick into the stands, so I think that would be the comparison to make. Lecavalier was also a fair bit different from Tuckers.

He didnt admit to it, He said it was all in the heat of the moment, from what I saw, It looked like he peeled his helmet, tried to drop it and the guys strap or something got stuck to his hand and wouldnt come off when he tried to drop it. He also said he didn't know what he was getting his penalty for(match penalty)... He thought it was for his fighting strap or something.

But, I dont like Tucker, A fine or a suspension, I dont really care, what is $2500 to a pro hockey player anyways?

I don't know the specifics of the CBA but, generally, the players lose their salary for the game(s) missed. Usually, the team will donate the salary to charity.

Whether it was in the heat of the moment or not, he should be suspended. Things like that shouldn't be tolerated in the league.

I'm a Leafs fan btw.

I'd call "Ya, I knew it was on my hand, but it was in the heat of the moment" admitting to it. He didn't know that he was getting a match penalty for te helmet thing, but he knew he hit him with a helmet.
