Jack Johnson - World Jrs.

Recommended Posts

This is ridiculous. Those of you who are preaching about how Downie got what was coming to him, or this is just part of the game should be ashamed. When I think of all the crap that surrounded the Bertuzzi incident, I'm shocked so many people seem to be fine with Johnson's disgusting cheap shot. So the results weren't the same, the intention sure was. I lost a lot of respect for a good young prospect tonight, I only wish the Canadian guys could have a chance to even the score with him.

Here's what I am thinking

Johnson should be gone for the tourney. They took Phaneuf out of the Medal game 2 years ago for a "questionable" elbow on Olesz. This was an intentional elbow to the head that is going with only a one game suspension. Defend it if you like, but it's the same as the Domi Niedermayer hit and much worse than a hit which took Canada's top defender out of a 1-goal loss in a medal game where they were leading late. Also Downey did start all that crap with Windsor, forced a trade, firing and got his ass kicked (yes, he lost the fight) by the rookie he was picking on.

I think if he would of connected fully with that elbow that Downie would of been out cold.

He didn't, but Downie acted as if he was out cold anyways.

Unfortunately, when doing something like that, he probally didn't think about the consiquences of the guy not wearing a full cage. Not that that makes it right, but considering this is one of the first games he's played with a shiled on does make a difference.

I went to the USA vs. Switzerland game. My god, Jack Johnson and Erik Johnson were by far the two most undiscipline players on the ice. I still can't forget how Erik Johnson just two handed a Swiss player in the back of the head in front of the USA net in the third period.

kick out of tournament?? Come on, hockey is suppose to be a physical sport...i did not see wut J Johnson did, but hockey is not a soft sport and if you didn't notice...Kobe Bryant got suspended for 2 games for elbowing a guy in a non contact sport. Should Johnson really get suspended for a possible 3 games for elbowing somebody in a physical sport? GO USA

Anyone have a clip of the "cheap shot"??

Yes hockey is physical, but this was attempt to injure, He skated into him and threw the elbow to his head. There is no need for cheap shots in hockey. It ruins the game.

The way I see it is, the Canadians think they're should be some action taken against him. On the other hand, the Americans think what he did was fine and had it coming and all the little hacks that Downie did.

Not only that, but it seems that Erik Johnson takes like 4 penalties a game, at least from what I saw in the finland and canada games, every other shift he was in the box.

just old time hockey really, i mean, the intent was there, but i'm pretty sure downie had a hand in initiatiing it, lets just leave it at that, they all got what they deserved

With opinions like this, it's surprising that more people don't die playing hockey.

Kessel is a very selfish player and his style of play hurts the US against top competition. What Johnson did was out of line, but it couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy.

So if next game Johnson get's elbowed to the head, than I guess he was deserving too than?

Chadd - Kessel did not impress me at all. He looks like a crackbaby with the puck on his stick, goes about 400 mph and tries the same move every time.

okay this is really starting to piss me off. how can you say kessel is a selfish player when he has 8 points that are all assists? seriously. and if kessel were canadian you'd all be creaming you pants over him saying how great of a playmaker he is.

He is more of a scorer and because he hasn't proven he can pass it off to his teammates when the puck isn't going in for him and people aren't buying his inside out move that means he will continue to hurt them like he did last night. Excluding his out of character five assist game he is only averaging an assist per game in the tournament, far from number one pick statistics.

Chadd is American, I'm American, so that point is moot I guess. He had 5 assists against NORWAY. Based on that logic, Chris Bourque must be the next great sniper in the NHL as well no?

Theo - There is alot of Middle ground between the "Bertuzzi incident" and a 1 game suspension. The Domi - Niedermayer incident is almost a perfect fit for the situation. Niedermayer did something earlier in the game the Leafs took exception to, much like Johnson getting upset at the slash. Domi waited till the game was cemented before he acted, much like Johnson waited for the goal to be scored and Downie to be unprepared. Both were elbows to the head, both players made it look worse than it was. I think Domi's was an 8 gamer, I think Johnson should be gone for the rest of the tournet based on past NHL rulings and the IIHF "elbow" penalty to Phaneuf.

Kessel - He apperantly is having trouble in the NCAA, at least for the expectations he was given. I've only seen him in the WJC's, but he seems to trip up on his own feet alot and loose edges. He pads his stats against weaker opponenets as well. Last I heard he isn't a lock for the #1 pick anymore, and not anywhere close to the run-away favourite like he was before.

The point that some of you guys are missing is the simple fact that this is what Downie does. He pisses people off, and they go and do things like Johnson. Whether he deserved it or not is completely subjective, what happened, happened. He did what he does best, and it worked as well as it could possibly have. Now Johnson's in shit and Downie is relaxing for another 2 days until the Semi's.

That being said, from the camera angle I am thinking we all saw it from, it didn't look like his head moved at all after the elbow and it looked like Johnson just grazed his head.

That's why Downie's on the team. He's doing his job.

Downie is doing what he does best. He's almost a replica off Matt Cooke - a pest, likes throwing the body around, annoying, good forechecker etc.

On the Kessel note, I don't see how Pierre McGuire could be hailing him as much as he did. I thought he was a hot dog that couldn't get around two Canadian defenders. He tried toe drags and head fakes everywhere but Staal and Parent were fantastic on the back end for Canada.

I love Kessel's dangle, same one he's done forever. He did it last year in the world juniors and he's still trying it. Soon he will figure out that it doesnt work, and that maybe he should pass.
