Miike

Jack Johnson - World Jrs.

Recommended Posts

That's fairly accurate Miike. However, Downie was going to go to celebrate with Chipchura, when Johnson immediately changed directions and stuck up the big elbow.

Chipper turns to clebreate and Downie is laying on the ice in a heap. Kyle's looking around like "What the hell?"

I heard JJ got stapled against the boards today. Sweet. Is it just me or does the tendency for Americans to be full of their own massive egos trickle down to hockey players too?

Take that Robbie Schremp!

;)

Does the tendency for Canadians to be boring and slow trickle down to guys on message boards?

Ooooh, I got told.

I'm from Canada. They think I'm slow, eh?

Honestly, I see it in a lot of talented, young athletes. Especially the ones with friends and parents who tell them how good they are all the time. It does go to their head and that's when the ego trips start and that's why the US teams always go out early.

Agreed.

Yeah, sorry.  This is not 1975 anymore.  Both Canadians, Americans, and people from all countries are full of themselves now.

Does that make us all Frenchmen?

It's because the American's all imigrated to Canada! Us Canadian's are now beginning to be the bad boy American and it's portraying our country in a negative manner.

Are you serious? Look at your own country's "hockey ego" before accusing the US of that.

Speaking of canada, that was great how they were chanting US SUCKS during the game last night. I won't go on too much on that as I'm sure our fans would probably do the same to Canada in retaliation. Bottom line, both countries, and probably all countries are a bit cocky of themselves, not just the USA.

This whole tournament seems to have been a let down. I haven't watched as many games as I would have liked, but I expected alot more from the States. I was hoping Canda would have some more offense and if not, they'd be more physical. Canada seems to come out like gang busters for the first shift or two then settle down. They have very little "skill" on the team and just seem to play a great system. After such a great tournament the past two years, I'm a little dissappointed this year.

The funny part, most of the "massive egos" that I see on hockey message boards belong to the Canadian contingents who believe that no other nation can produce hockey players or compete. Not to mention, one of the most absolutely classless teams that I have had the misfortune of playing happened to be a bunch of guys from Canada.

You're just adding fuel to the fire man. I don't know anyone, anyone, who thinks that the US can't have good hockey or produce good players. Not to plug, but I know a fair number of people in and around the hockey world, never heard anything like that. So you had a bad experience with a Canadian team, you can't throw that stereotype on everyone else just because you played some douchebags who thought that

Try visiting some of the Canadian NHL teams' message boards and you'll understand. That awful team was just one example but the prevailing mindset in Canada is that it is the only country that knows the game, can play the game, and whose cities deserve the game. Trust me, this wasn't just a kneejerk reaction to one instance.

To be fair, I was just dumping the "arrogant American," stereotype on the US Junior Team, and Americans in general...just stirring things up - it was meant to be a lighthearted poke. That is not to say, however, that as unfortunate as it is, American athletes just seem to perpetuate the egotistical, cocky and direspectful asshole image (ie. 1998 US Olympic Hockey Team).

It would be idiocy to assume that every single person in America is arrogant/ignorant/stupid. It would also be stupid to believe that the US cannot produce great players or knowledgeable hockey people.

Canadians do sometimes get big egos about our supposed hockey dominance, but I think it just comes with the fact that hockey is such a large part of the fabric that makes up Canada. No other country gets as emotional about hockey like Canada -it really is a measure of ourselves against the world - better than trying to build the biggest, baddest army, I suppose...we're fiercely proud of our hockey - it's different here, it defines our nation, probably more than anything else, at least, on a large, publicly widespread scale.

Hey hockey is great and I love it. And its good to be proud of your country's athletes, but to say that your country is defined by a sport- That's kinda sad.

It's not sad at all. If you ask anyone what the first thing they think of when they think of Canada, I think hockey is a pretty likely answer.

I didn't want to have to do this, but I think if you ask people what defines America, you might get:

a. idiocy and arrogance

b. misguided patriotism

c. war/arms race

d. Dubya

e. overinflated sense of self importance

I think hockey is better than any of the above.

Wow, feeling a little bit of hate for the USA. I'm not going to argue with you about which is the better country. I already know the answer.
