Penguins to move Malone ?

Recommended Posts

I was watching Sportsnet tonight and they said that the Penguins GM has sent out an e-mail to other GM's offering up Ryan Malone for trade bait

Anyone else hear anything about this?

Heard Therrien isn't too impressed with Malone's work ethic. Wouldn't be surprised if they move him, he's been a healthy scratch quite a bit lately.

yeah, they joked that he didn't spend enough time at the rink

They also said the Leafs are front runners for him......mind you, every trade rumour has the Leafs involved

I think he will flourish in any other town. The kid worked his ass off last season and turned himself into a good NHL player. I think all of the new guys the Pens brought in killed his spirit. He strikes me as a Kyle Calder type player.

I thought Kyle Calder was supposedly a lazy player too...

Works hard every time I see him. My point was that neither is ever going to be considered a "top talent" but can contribute if put in the right role. Second line guys that can grind and score a little.

Agreed, Malone was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise lousy 03/04 season for Pittsburgh. Then they bring in all these other guys, who haven't done much this year either, and he gets the shaft from day one.

Yes, I certainly remember Malone being regarded as a hard worker, but Calder, I've always heard had the talent, but was lazy. On the Hawks, glad to see Tuomo back. At least the Hawks got one thing right...

Isn't this guy a PA native? Man how things have changed for his in one season but I'd sure take him on the Habs in a heartbeat althought I sure a dozen other teams would too.

Sorry hes got 6 goals 6 assists after being on the all rookie team last year. Mike and Bob were commenting about him at the end of the game, but no mention of a trade. Kinda just to sit and think about what he's done I believe..

btw, Thibault, 3 GAA on 9 shots against ATL haha

Sportsnet Canada is reporting that the Penguins have told Malone they are trying to trade him. I'd like to see Pittsburgh actually get a solid defenseman in return. I always liked Brendan Witt, who has wanted out of Washington since the start of the season. However Witt makes more than twice what Malone is making.

As far as Thibault goes he's been brutal in all but a handful of games I've seen him play this year, maybe they should have signed Cujo when they had the chance. Another brilliant move by Craig Patrick who isn't getting nearly as much blame as he deserves.

They could probably get something from a team for Thibault. Even if it's just a playoff team that wants a real backup and has cap room.

Pretty shitty that Malone is getting forced out, kid was the heart of the team last year.

I think that it would be pretty hard to move Thibault the way that he has played this season.

To bad about Malone He's getting screwed on this.

Malone scored a goal last night, just for the record.

Maybe he wants to stay in Pitt? His dads a scout, he played his highschool hockey at a PGH school, he's a born and raised pittsburgh kid.

I dont remember the rink name, but I played a game where he played highschool or midget or something, and they had a banner with his name and number retired hanging from the rafters and a signed puck that he dropped the opening faceoff with in a plaque mounted on the wall.

The Avs NEED to pick up a forward right now. With May, Konowalchuk and now Turgeon out, something has got to happen.

I would like Malone on the Avs. I could see him adding a harder working element to a line with Sakic, Tanguay or Hejduk.

Apparently his dad wants him out of Pittsburgh and away from his friends because he parties too much.

Sounds like Bryan Berard.

pens need a goalie... got talk to the wild...

They won't trade Fernandez, and Roloson would be a rental.

EDIT: And, uh, I think Marc Andre Fleury isn't a bad option in net. He's going to be a star. What they really need are guys that can play on the defensive side of the puck.

Exactly, they don't need a goalie now because it's not like they're contending for anything other than the chance to get Kessel next year. They need D, badly.
