Recchi on the move also?

Recommended Posts

Rumor has it Mark Recchi is also tired of Crosby's act and the Flyers are looking for another veteran based on the Keith Primeau situation. Keep it mind it's still just a rumor, but apparently the Flyers equipment staff wouldn't give #8 to Dennis Seidenberg when he requested it. Personally I'd love to see Recchi back in Philadelphia for the playoffs.

not that i question the building crosby hate, but i'd really hate to see mark go. he's been one of the best players this year and has always been a fav since his first pens stint.

A Toronto station had Chow and Domi going to Pittsburg for Malone and Recchi yesterday. I'm guessing it would have to be pure salary dump for that to happen.

Who do you think the Pens would choose in the draft?? Miller, Johnson, Kessel or Toews??

we need some thug to beat up on other teams' guys so they wont piss off the offensive players(specifically crosby here, since he has 80 PIM, just 2 under mr. gonchar). also, we need a defense that doesnt leave our goalies out to dry

Malkin and Crosby on the same team will be interesting. Malkin brought quite a level of chippiness to his game during Olympics. I'm looking forward to seeing him try this in the NHL. He certainly has tons of offensive talent, the other stuff was a surprise to see.

malking and crosby wouldn't play on the same line, since they're both centers (and play similarly), so while having them on the same team would be nice, they still need some forwards who can finish the plays

There has been some talk lately of the Pens auctioning him off to get a few more pieces to help them rebuild. Plus paying them both max salary in a couple years would make it hard to ice a competitive team.

Trading Malkin would be a mistake. I know they are both centers and need wingers. As for max salary $, with the cap the limit would keep the salary kind of reasonable for each of them and still allow $ for the rest of the team. Anyway, they will have new owners and be long gone from Steeltown by the time the kids are ready.

at the risk of feeling like a jackass later, I have to say I don't think they're moving.

The only reason they would is if the city elects to go with Harrah's casino instead of the company offering to fund a new arena. If that is the reason for their move, I'm moving too :) (not necessarily to where they are moving though)

I agree, unless you get an absolute steal in a trade, don't trade Malkin. It would be great for the powerplay, and it would be a bit like the avalanche with Foppa and Joe.

Within 3 years you could have 2 players taking up 50% of the payroll

Plus the packages I've heard (and probably Chadd) are VERY interesting.

I think I heard Pitkanen, Umberger, Carter and picks for Malkin as a possibility.

Pitkanen, Carter, and Umberger

Man, that doesn't sound like it would ever happen:

Pitkanen being considered the 'next' defensive staple in Philadelphia, and Bobby Clarke's lack of success with past Russian players (0 Russian players on the squad, the last 2 (Zhamnov and Markov) being picked up close to the trade deadline in 03-04 (and never resigned)), I can't see a Blue-Chip Russian prospect landing in Philly.

Although, I assume the logic of the rumor is in the fact that Philly has 6 centers on their roster, plus Primeau... But chances are Nedved and Forsberg are not long-term faces, so I don't know.

Eklund compared it to the Lindros fiasco a while ago where teams will give up a ton in order to get him. Recchi was also included in the Pitkanen rumour.

Didn't they already try Roy, Vandenbusshe, and Cairns?

Where'd you hear these rumours?

If you are talking about the rumor I posted about Recchi it's over a month old, before they picked up Nedved. Was a rumor from a member of the Philadelphia media. Obviously it didn't happen, although word has it that CP is willing to deal any of the Pens vets (Recchi, LeClair, Gonchar, etc.) to a playoff contender if the player wants. Good luck moving Gonchar though. The two or three years he has left on a big contract isn't going to look too inviting to many teams, not with his play this year anyway.

well they didnt really do much good i guess. as for gonchar, he hasnt done much at all... he supposed to be an offensive defensman and hes barely done anything anywhere...

Well, for what its worht (not much), he is 4th on the Pens in scoring, first in total icetime, (and 1st in penalty minutes - all minors of course)

So he's done something.. Just not sure if he's helped or hurt the team..

On a side-note - The fans in Pittsburgh boo him all the time now, and he had like 8 assists in the last four home games before the break... and they kept booing him. He said he didn't understand why they kept booing him.

It's funny

It is not possible to pay Crosby and Malkin $10 mil each. The CBA set a limit below $10 mil for individual player salaries. Jagr is the highest paid player in the NHL at $8,360,000. Lidstrom, Tkachuk, and Yashin are tied at $7,600,000, 5th is Iginla at $7,000, 000. There is a number for maximum player contract $ in the new CBA. I know the salary cap will move year-to-year so I would expect this number to move relative as well. I don't think its possible to spend 50% of your salary cap on 2 players.
