I was looking through the NHL Gallery photos, and came across Philippe Sauve and David Aebeschier in a goalie fight? Anyone know what happened? Dirty game? Bench clear? Anyone?

I just noticed this TSN story about it and wondered what happened myself.

From what I've read elsewhere Sauve just wanted a piece of Aebeschier, skated down at a stopage when there was 31 seconds left and started a fight.

I just saw the ESPN highlights and it looked like a scrum infront of colorado's goal. between skates with 30 seconds left. At that point suave decided "what the hell" 30 seconds left why not? Skates across the ice and grabs him. The funny thing is it was such a pathetic fight, neither of them got a fighting major.

Yeah, I looked at the penalties in the boxscore and expected to see that at least one other fight had happened, but no this was the only fight at that time.

Considering the fact they were teammates in Hershey and Colorado you have to wonder if there was some other reason Sauve skated the length of the ice to get involved.

Yeah, I am a colorado fan and live here in denver. I was at the game last night. There was a some pushing and shoving in front of the net. The abby got involved. Once suave saw this he skated the full ice length to try and get a piece of him. However suave never took off his helmet. And they both recieved game miscounducts.

Sauve was such a pussy about it though. He throws down his glove and blocker, doesnt take off his helmet, and doesn't let Abby take off his glove. Abby kicked his ass though. ;)

I was listining to it on XM last night and i heard something about amonte slashing abby and then it just went to hell from there.

Goalies will usually travel the length of the ice when they see the opposing goalie involved in the fray because that means his guys are outnumbered. One of my favorites was when Dafoe and Kolzig ended up tugging at the sweaters and Dafoe was trying not to laugh. One of them was the other's best man a summer or two before.
