Doug Weight now a Cane

I think I would've rather had an actual bowl of rice...please tell me these rumors aren't true...

Unless of course, it's a bowl of rice, a 1st rounder, and 2 second rounders...

I know they won't, but they should keep Walt...he dominates in this new league (well...at least the 24 seconds he actually played this year)...but he's actually a bargain next year (I wanna say 3.5 mil or something like that)...my guess is he'll come back in the next 2 or 3 games, dominate before & during the olympics, and then get traded...

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired Doug Weight and 27-year-old Finnish forward Erkki Rajamaki from the St. Louis Blues.

In exchange, Carolina gave to the Blues three draft picks and three players. The package includes:

- Carolina's first-round pick in 2006.

- Toronto's fourth-round pick in 2006, previously acquired by the Hurricanes.

- Chicago's fourth-round pick in 2007, previously acquired by the Hurricanes.

- Tough guy forward Jesse Boulerice, a 27-year-old eighth-year pro

- Forward Mike Zigomanis, a 25-year-old fifth-year pro

- Magnus Kahnberg, 25, an unsigned Carolina draftee from Sweden who will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1

According to prospect guys I listen to at another board, Blues did not really do all that well for despite the # of guys they got

Zigomanis usually does pretty well in the AHL but I believe the knock on him has always been his skating. Boulerice is a goon and the other guy will be a free agent in the very near future.

Combined with the draft picks, it does help them start re-stocking their roster at the AHL and NHL levels. It's going to take a couple years to get the organization "fixed" though getting some prospects and picks for Tkachuk and Cajanek will help speed that up. I wouldn't even be surprised to see Weinrich go to a contender at the deadline.

First impression of the trade..........it's just like one I'd make in Madden: Pile on the crappy assets until the trade bar turns green. It's pretty much a first rounder and depth guys to fill out their roster. Carolina does well in this trade, I definitely didn't expect this sort of move out of them.

The canes will be ok...they still have some tough guys on the roster, some good young talent and more fan favs than just Bolorice...Although I do hate to see him go, but they have been a suprise this year year doing so well, hopefully Weight can step right in and help them out even more, this could work out good for the canes cup chances...

im a canes fan and now im kinda mad b/c they gave away so many things jeez especially bolorice, hes a big fan fav and mike zigomanis looked promising too dang

i'm a oilers fan so i know what kinda of player weight is and i can tell you that you guys just got yourself one heck of a player. this guy is one of the best play makers in the league and is a freaking machine on the PP if he has people to pass it to. on top of that weight is a class act all the way. i don't know if i would of liked the oilers giving away a #1 pick to get weight though. if he was a 28 year old then hell ya but not at his age anymore.

Ditto...for all you Canes fans...next time you go to a game, get a good seat & watch Dougie stickhandle up close, in person...on the power play...it is a thing of beauty.

Man, shitty day to be a Blues fan.

I think it is good for Weight. He wanted to go to a cup contender and I actually think the Canes have a chance this year.

Hell maybe the Canes will end up in Kansas City and I can watch Weight in KC.

From the sound of it, Weight will re-sign with the Blues in the offseason.

Not a fan of either of the two teams involved but given Weight is still averaging nearly a PPG it seems to be a great pick-up for Carolina. However, if I were them I probably would have gone after a different piece of the puzzle considering they already have Staal and Brind'Amour. Not totally sure of their line-up or cap situation but maybe a scoring winger or checking line center would have served them better?

It's alot more than the original rent a player rumour suggested.
