Good opportunity for McCabe.

The way things are right now, the best d man hands down (not on the roster) is Phaneuf. The kid is a giant on the Flames this year.

I realize McCabe gets the nod due to the tazi squad, but after his time off meh...

Dion deserves it more than any other player, preformance based.

I think I'd prefer Bouwmeester and Boyle ahead of Phaneuf. At least Nieds won't be turning the puck over every shift, so hopefully that will cancel out anything we lose in JoVo.

If it's a powerplay specialist they need, Boyle would be a great choice. Plus he can play a decent number of minutes at even strength.

Dion has got the bomb from the point if you are looking for a power play specialist. 10 of his 11 goals on the PP. Dion can handle the big sheet with his skating ability, too. No disrespect to McCabe, either. He also has a cannon!

Bolye moves the puck much better than Phaneuf does. Sure Dion has a big shot, but sometimes the PP is about puck movement and knowing when not to shoot.

There's a few options for big shots with McCabe and Blake. Dion really doesn't bring anything that the team doesn't have. Yes, he is an excellent D-man, but someone like Bouwmeester can bring a speed and composure game that I don't really see in anyone else on the blueline. Of the D that I can think of on the team, McCabe, Pronger and Blake all play the same way (with McCabe being the poorest of the 3). Foote and Blake are D-specialist and the other 2 are hurt.

I would like to see a forward at the point on the PP as a set-up man for some of the big shots, but I don't see that as too likely with Quinn's coaching style.

Sakic is great on the point as well.

With the skill level of the Defensemen that they have, I sure hope they don't use a forward back there. They have enough quality defensemen that can play the point well, that it is not worth the risk of putting a forward back there and giving up a shorthanded goal. There is no need to take that risk, when they already have enough skilled defensemen.

I don't really think of anyone on the back-end as a set-up man. McCabe has Kaberle here, Blake has Liles, Pronger has MA, Niedermayer is out, Foote and Regehr aren't exactly PP guys. It opens up alot more. If they had a passer on D, like Boyle or possible Bouwmeester, I'd like to see 2 D, but a forward would work well. Sakic and Richards both come to mind for me.

Boyle - 11 goals, 21 assists= 32 points

Phaneuf - 12 goals, 21 assists = 33 points

About a forward on the point of PP: Please remember the international sheet at 200' x 100'. No matter how great a skater that forward is at the point, one blueline poke check and its off to the races for a shorthanded goal. Its a one and done tournament in the medal round. If I'm sending the boys over the boards, that is too great a risk in the medal round.

That also goes the same for a shooter who has a shot blocked. If Sakic's pokechecked, I have more faith he can chase down a forward than Phaneuf.

I really do like Phaneuf now, I didn't before, but he has really grown on me, it just seems with their D, everyone is cut from the same cloth. If this D is having trouble with speed, there isn't anyone on the blueline who can help.

Sakic or Richards on the point?

What about Redden?

I get the line of thinking that they need another offensive minded D with Jovo and possibly Nieds and or McCabe out but it is better to pick the best replacement possible without worrying about who is going to play the point on the second PP unit.

I'd like to see Joe and Dion have a race for speed. I'd bet it would be closer than we think and I'm not sure who would win. Joe has great acceleration and Dion has great power skating strides. Lets offer them a million bucks, winner takes all!!
