06 easton or vapor skates

Recommended Posts

Its come time for me to buy a new pair of skates this spring, About 2 years ago, i got two brand new pairs of the easton Ultra Lite Pro SBX skates. They have lasted me well, but I think its time for an upgrade. Just out of curiosity, has anybody else used these skates? what did u think of them?

Anyhow, i've been looking at the new 06 skates, and the 05 models, and with out trying anything on yet, im thinking either vapor XXX or a synergy 1500c. I really like the fit and feel of the eastons I have now, and would like to get something that fits my foot close to the same way, but its a bit lighter and better performing skate. I know that a composite boot may not fit quite like my SBX, but everyone that i have talked to, aside from the burability of the XXX, swears by the new light weight skates. what do you guys think?

I had a pair of the Air SBX's. I found they were way to soft for me, but they very comfortable. If you want a skate to feel\fit similar you would be better looking at Mission S500 or Graf. The 1500 is much stiffer and will prob feel very different!

to be honest, i've never thought that the SBX's were too soft to the point where i needed a different skate, except now that they have been used for a while. But i've never really skated in an ultra stiff boot either so its hard for me to say I guess.

The more I talk to people, the more im thinking about really looking into the 1500c, its supposed to be able to be baked, and i've heard nothing but bad things about the vapors durability wise. Considering that the 1500c is an easton, should the boot fit about the same as the SBX? width, toe room arches ect? I really want to go with a lighter skate and i was under the impression that the mission skates weren't that light or that well designed of a skate.....

Weight isn't all that critical - if the skates fit right and are right for your feet you won't notice minor weight differences when you're playing in them. I used to use CCM Vector Pros, but they weren't the right size for me - the skates were really light in my hands and while they felt pretty comfortable on the ice my new skates (KOR Shift 1's) feel much better on the ice because the fit is better. However, in my hands I'd say the Shift 1's are a bit heavier then the Vector Pros, not by much, but they are slightly heavier based on feel alone.

Try on some different skates and see which ones fit your feet the best. If you can take advantage of some try before your buy type programs like some stores have on the Synergys and other skates that's even better. Get something that fits you right and feels good on the ice - weight shouldn't be the top concern.

Oh, and I've read a lot of good things here about the Missions S500s..written by people who work in the hockey industry and seem quite knowledgeable so I think whoever told you the S500s weren't well designed are misinformed. They may be a bit heavier than Synergy Skates or Vapors, but they're certainly not bricks.

You are correct in stating that the Vapors have known durability issues. I've read about many of those problems and have seen the skates wear out on teammates.

No, unless they have changed the fit of the 1500C, it should fit like the 1300C, which fit like nothing else in the Easton line.

so the mission s500 is a pretty light weight an top end skate then? I did some more searching and they seem to have gotten pretty good reviews. Pretty much the exact opposite of the impression I was under before researching the skate.

I looked in the '06 mission catolog tho, and they dont have the s500 listed for this year. Are they going to be out of production, or just out of the catolog? My LHS has sold out of 2005 mission skates and i'd like to try a pair on before buying them.

Looking through the catolog, the fuel AG looks like it might be what im looking for, and im wondering if i should wait until the new stock comes in, or just try to find a pair of s500's on closeout. are there any oppions of the new Fuel skates?

S500 is my favorite skate...been in them for what, 3 years now?

It has been replaced by the Fuel AG. Cannot comment on the AG because I have a pair of XPs which is a different cut. Chadd has the AGs.

What?

Yes sir! Yesterday I was skating (Playing some pick-up) chasing after the puck and holy S!@# I went flying into the boards it was funny for all my buddys. the sole ripped off the back of the boot! I am dealing with bauer right now and they are being cool about it. They think this happened maybe because the stiffness of the cobra holder or how it is off-centered by 2 mm. Im on hold right now will see what happens.

You are the dream of the hockey industry. How much have you spend in the last months on skates (only..) ? $2000 ?

I know I feel like I am the NBH test Rat. I have sold all my other pairs so it hasent been as bad as it sounds.NBH has agreed to send me a pair of Bauer 8090 8 2E. in replace of the Vapors witch they feel are not the right skate for me. I had them stretched and the boot ended up being a little shallow for me and the only skate they could easly get was the 8090 witch I am glade because I liked them before. I had a pair on today 8D and they fit good just not wide enough. So thats all I am going to do is move the LS2 blade/holder over 2MM....Because I would need to buy a set of 272mm Cobras and I've spent enough <_<

thats nice of them. i thought changing holders voided warranties, but maybe i was wrong

One time deal...And a DR. note faxed to them closed the deal. the lady that delt with me did it because of all the work I had done to them and not even get 20hrs out of them. She said she felt bad but seeing that you can get 8090 for 229.00 and 30's for 450.00 I feel they made out.
