Mission s500 vs. Pure Fly

Recommended Posts

A few questions on the S500's versus the Pure Fly's that I couldn't get the answers for from recent searches on this site:

1. The boot looks identical and i'm having lacebite issues after 2+ years, is there any improvement in design on the tongue?

2. Is the weight the same?

3. Does the S500 breathe better? My Pure Fly's are about a pound heavier at the end of a game because they soak up so much sweat.

4. Should I just wait for the new lineup or are the new features just not worth the added $$$?

Any other feedback on the S500's is appreciated.

I've been skating in SuppleFit skates for 4 years. I can probably give you the best opinion.

The tongue in the S500 is different...MUCH better than the Pure Fly. It should solve your lacebite issues as it has more meat to it.

I'd say the weight is the same.

S500 has clarino - will resist sweat and dry better.

Get the S500. Simple as that.

The new ones don't fit the same.

Thanks for the replies.

The tongue on the s500 was my main concern. I can't find an LHS in the Boston area that sells Mission so I appreciate the feedback.

Prices for these are low right now too (160 - 179) so it's probably good timing.

Mission ice skates are hard to come by in the boston area.

BUT, if you have a car, its worth a drive to Connecticut and South Windsor arena. Its about an hour and a half drive, but you can get the S500 or S400 really cheap there. I got my s400 there for about 200 bucks. Its a great deal for a great skate. I would've gotten the s500 but honestly the s400 just felt so good right out of the box and I am used to Tour boot for inline which i play more of so the s500 was too stiff. but the tongue is awesome on the missions and they are pretty light and don;t get water heavy like the grafs i had.

I prefer the S series tongue as well.

S500 are better skates. No doubt in my mind at all. Almost got a pair in my size and width a while back but some slime bucket scooped them when I went to get the sales guy to try em for a walkabout. Too bad. At 199.99 CDN they where on clearance and a real steal.

Just picked a pair up on Ebay for 149.95, senior size 11D. Someone is selling all the S series and L series at pretty low prices.

I know they'll go on sale at Hockey Giant as soon as the new lineup is in but it'll be a while before they get this low.
