Cutting off tops of shin pads

Recommended Posts

I used to cut the top foam parts off of my shinpads in the old days so they wouldn't interfere with my pants at all and am on the verge of doing it again with my 9060's........anyone else do this? I never had a problem way back then, just curious whether I am alone in this equipment modification.

I know quite a few people who do that. That top pad doesn't do much and just seems to get in the way. Rbk even took in off of some of their shinh pads. Good move of their part.

that pad gets in the way with my pants, but to fix it, i just simply tape it over. i just grab some shin pad tape, as i tape my socks regardless, and just just wrap around that pad, then around the shins.

I went ahead and cut them off, but due to the mesh liner not being attached to the foam I'm going to have to sew the edge down with some fishing line.....will post pics when it is all done.

Fishing line breaks down. It won't last.

Maybe I'm just being simple minded - but sounds to me like you need either a shorter shin-guard or shorter pants.

Can someone post pictures of this because i have the same problem. Im just curious if everyone is cutting them down right to the caps or slightly above.

Also if its going to fray or some of the pads might come apart has anyone taken it to a shop to get stitched up?

I've cut shin pads down before as well. I cut as little off the top as possible, though. Start with a minimal cut, skate on it, and take off more as needed. My reasoning was that it was better to have the pad than not on the off chance that you have to block a puck there.
