killthepoodle 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2006 I used to cut the top foam parts off of my shinpads in the old days so they wouldn't interfere with my pants at all and am on the verge of doing it again with my 9060's........anyone else do this? I never had a problem way back then, just curious whether I am alone in this equipment modification.
donkey87 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2006 I know quite a few people who do that. That top pad doesn't do much and just seems to get in the way. Rbk even took in off of some of their shinh pads. Good move of their part.
JR Boucicaut 3810 Report post Posted February 9, 2006 I still do that to my Jofas. THey interfere with the pant.
forsberg91 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2006 Some of the Rbks dont have that extra thing on the top, so if you need new shin pads and hate the extra padding get those.
Roach 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2006 I do it. No problems.

Fletch 219 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 I still do that to my Jofas. THey interfere with the pant. Me too. I did it to my 9090's for the same reason.
killthepoodle 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 Yes, used em for the first time this morning.....perfect fit! The legs are the proper length hence the shin pad issue, the 54's just came halfway down my knee. Thanks!

Kovy_Ribs_Fedo 3 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 I am doing it. It doesn't interfere with my pants nd it's useless.
lee92 2 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 that pad gets in the way with my pants, but to fix it, i just simply tape it over. i just grab some shin pad tape, as i tape my socks regardless, and just just wrap around that pad, then around the shins.
jagrfan 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 I just folded the pad over on my 8090's and put it between the kneecap and the removable liner. Works great.
killthepoodle 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 I went ahead and cut them off, but due to the mesh liner not being attached to the foam I'm going to have to sew the edge down with some fishing line.....will post pics when it is all done.
JR Boucicaut 3810 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 Eh you don't have to.
killthepoodle 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 That mesh isn't going to pull away and get all forked up?
hurricane 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 I went ahead and cut them off, but due to the mesh liner not being attached to the foam I'm going to have to sew the edge down with some fishing line.....will post pics when it is all done. Fishing line breaks down. It won't last.
JR Boucicaut 3810 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 Don't even bother. I never did. Once it gets rid of the frays it's all good.
killthepoodle 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 My old ass jofas had the felt that was attached to the foam, you have newer ones where the mesh isn't? All is well?
JR Boucicaut 3810 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 Yes. The outer material is separate. I cut them low enough that it is flush with the cap.

Maybe I'm just being simple minded - but sounds to me like you need either a shorter shin-guard or shorter pants.
$m0k3 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Can someone post pictures of this because i have the same problem. Im just curious if everyone is cutting them down right to the caps or slightly above. Also if its going to fray or some of the pads might come apart has anyone taken it to a shop to get stitched up?
yrhmblnr8r 69 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 I've cut shin pads down before as well. I cut as little off the top as possible, though. Start with a minimal cut, skate on it, and take off more as needed. My reasoning was that it was better to have the pad than not on the off chance that you have to block a puck there.
