Contrary to most, I actually dont like my s400's

My last thread was about finding the right fitting skate and buying less skate than the Pro Vectors since I only weigh 140lbs and skate about twice a week. I went with the forum choice on the Mission S400 and yeah, they're a great buy for what they cost.

After a couple times at the rink with them, I'm just not a fan of them. They seem too narrow on the feet(the outsides of my feet feel squished) yet too wide on the ankles. I guess since I'm fairly thin, my skinny ankles just dont fill the top of the boot, and I feel really wiggly on them on the ice.

Missions seem to have very open tops, where my old Bauer's have wider tongues and stiffer and larger backs. The back of the skate where the calf is, is very flexible on the missions as well.

I briefly tried on the Nike Flexlite at a LHS and the ankles are well covered. Maybe that's what I need.

I heard the easton synergy line is for wider feet as well as thinner ankles, no shop around me carries them though. Man finding the right skates sure is hard :(

May be also personal preference in skating, seems that my skates have even more room on ankle (at least from that picture) but i cant skate otherwise because i like to have very large forward and lateral movement for "feel" and "use" better the edges, i will give those skate a little more time before changing

Be sure to bake them. I bought my Pure Fly's on a whim and was nervous when I first tried them on, seemed too tight (I have fairly wide feet). After baking they were much, much better. It still took a few weeks until they were just right though. Now, three years later i'm ready to replace.

Not sure how you broke them in but if you can't tighten the laces around your ankle it looks like they're too stiff(?).

Tying them as tightly as I can, I still have alot of left-right movement room. While some people like the extra freedom, that extra room makes my ankles "wiggle" and I cant have that when on the ice.

I can see how baking would help alleviate the cramped foot pain, but they've said that there's not much baking can do when it comes to the upper eyelet area. It seems like a design preference of certain skates(I think the Pro Vectors are similar to the missions), to have wider or lesser ankle room.

If I lean on one side(left or right) of the missions, the side of the skate will bite into my ankle/lower leg, something I never had happen with my Bauer Supreme's.

Much of this is because I used to wear the Lightning's from Rollerblades, where it had the ratchet on top that always ensured ankle support.

The S series is based on Mission's supplefit design which is designed to have more room for the ankle movement and not keeping them held in place ala a Tack, Supreme, Vector..
