buying new pants

Recommended Posts

I'm really thinking about buying a pair of the Protector Lites up for auction on eBay right now. Unfortunately the seller has zero feedback, but the seller's store is Salming Canada, which helps with the trust issue. The shipping to the U.S. is kind of steep, tacking on $25 to the buy it now price of $55, but still a really good deal. From the pictures posted by SalmingUSA, it looks like the padding is just what I'm looking for.

If I do decide to buy them, I'll post a review for everyone...

I believe some of the Canadian members purchased things from him.

I dunno if you're too small for x-large salming pants but i'm thinking the auction on those: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Salming-Protector-Lite-...1QQcmdZViewItem may not reach 55$. Still 3 days left but who knows...

Yeah, I saw those too. I'm still in the large size category, thankfully, despite playing for the most beer oriented beer league team in the area.

I bought a pair of really nice XL Carolina Hurricane pro-level CCM Supras on eBay a couple years back and had to donate them to a Shrek sized guy on the team after I saw pictures of myself at a CHE Montreal tournament last year and decided I didn't want to look like a clown (though I've been known to play like one)

I have never seen Salming products in my area (Chicago) but I am not opposed to giving them a try. How is the weight and flexibility in these pants?

I think they are fairly light considering the protection.

The flexibilty is good, because there is four-way stretch material in the crotch. As I tell everyone at the tradeshow, it allows you to pull your groin more easily.... :P

He's the former distributor for Salming in Canada and is closing out his remaining inventory. He's a good guy and is trustworthy.

Shipping at $25 to the US might be a touch high, but not as much as you might think, depending how he's boxing them. The pants themselves are on the border for being an oversized package; after putting them into a box, they could easily exceed the threshold. Once that happens, the shipping companies automatically charge at 30 pounds, regardless what the actual weight is.

Yeah, you're right, 25's not bad-- I don't know what I was thinking, especially since I had someone ask for a shipping quote on a pair of pants I was selling on eBay--- it was pretty close to that figure for the bare minimum shipping service

I recommend the Synergy 700 or 900 pant by Easton. Great protection at a fairly decent price, especially the 700 and very light to boot. The 700 is the equivilent of the old Easton Air which a lot of the NHLers raved about because of the excellent protection level. ;)

Smoketrail, I can't tell if you're asking about the Synergy pants or the Protector Lites.

Based on waist size, you'd probably fit in Mediums, but if you are tall and fit, you might want the Large for longer thigh protection.

SalmingUSA

What size do the salming go to. I would be looking at a 38-40 (honest time, more to the 40 end of that) waist.

Also, if you don't mind answering, the PG1 gloves, there is someone on ebay, cdjay is the screenname there, who is selling a whole lot of salming stuff. I assume he is some sort of a reseller, but I currently have Louisville TPS Bionic 14" gloves, and want to go to 15 inch gloves, have you any clue how they salming fit compared to the likes of the TPS gloves?

Thanks

I concur if it is the Eastons your asking about. A medium should fit you if you have a size 34 waist. ;)

Allsmoke, the pants run S-XL. Either the L or XL would fit your waist, so if you are tall (over 6'), maybe you should consider the XL for longer thigh protection.

I never noticed the difference between my previous gloves and the PG1's when I first used them, but some say the fingers are slightly longer. If they are indeed longer than the TPS', maybe they are long enough to stay with 14" but I honestly don't know.

Allsmokenopancake - you have a PM.

Jason or anyone else. Can you compare the Salming pants to Mission M1's? I've been interested in making the switch. Weight, fit (slim, bulky), protection etc. Not that I don't like my M1's, but they're quite bulky and heavy IMHO - I don't have much to compare with however.

thanks

Troy

They're our top of the line, but I think they have a good price. The MSRP is just under $100.

Great! I'll check out a pair when I make it to Chicago in May. If I don't find any in any of the LHS, I'll send you an e-mail.
