Help with Lie

Recommended Posts

I just had a game and when I went to check the bottom of the blade, the tape wore near the heel and the toe and the tape right at the middle of the blade didnt wear at all. If I was using the proper blade then it would wear only at the middle so what lie is right for me, I currently use a Lie 6 and its worn out on both the heel and toe but the middle isnt wearing out.

i'm guessing u should go to a 6.5

the heel might be caused by u skating with ur stick in front and dragging it on the floor. the toe might be caused by ur actualy stickhandling...

just my $0.02

I dont know if you should worry about the tape on the heel, because when you skate without the puck the heel is usualy the only part touching the ground. Now if i remember correctly someone told me that the way the tape wares on your stick will tell you if your stick is to short or to long for your lie. So you can keep the same lie just change the length of your stick. Right now because your toe is getting rubbed off, I would say that stick needs to be a bit longer. I could be totally wrong however. Maybe ljack (forget his new name) can help you, because hes the one that posted about the tape rubbing off in one of my threads.

I don't buy into the tape wearing at the heel either because I also drag my stick's heel as I skate. If your shooting, skating and stickhandling are all fine, there's no cause for concern. If you feel you need to make changes, consider your skating, shooting, stick length, rocker and lie. Whichever one of these you're most comfortable with, make your changes around it. For example, I wasn't happy with my stickhandling, so I shortened my stick about 1" and started to skate with my knees more bent. Or if you're happy with your skating stance, change your stick length or blade lie. Just some ideas since I don't know how you skate, shoot, etc.

im thinking 5.5

because your using your heel to stickhandle, wearing the heel, and shooting, slapping with the toe, wearing the toe

maybe a 5.5 would allow you to stickhandle with mid heal, and shoot toe as well

Speaking of stick lie, somebody's telling some lies.... I feel bad for beginners surfing the web and trying to figure this out.

“The rule of thumb for determining if a player is using the proper lie is to examine the blade of his/her current stick. If the blade and/or tape is worn evenly from heel to toe then the player has the proper lie. If the toe of the blade is worn more than the rest of the stick, the player needs to decrease the lie (e.g. switch from a lie 6 to a 5.) Conversely, if the heel is worn, the player should use a stick with a higher lie.â€

“One way to determine if you have the proper lie is to examine your old stick

If the blade is worn on the toe, you should try a higher lie

If your stick is worn on the heel, you should try a lower lie

If the blade wears evenly, you are using the correct lieâ€

There's some player who don't have the proper lie but that's they want. Look at Havlat and Kovalev they always stickhandle on their heel. The lie is personal preference...

It may be PP, but those who dont have the money to buy new sticks all the time will want to wear the blade evenly. Guys who have a "wrong" lie and just wear on the heel of the blade more than anything else will end up splitting the bottom of the blade eventually. That is what happened to me before I changed patterns.

well resume Fireonice. This is exactly what I want to say but I have not always the good language to explain my point.

When Kovy shoots he gets over the puck and the blade is flat on the ice. If you use little rocker, you won't ever have it perfectly flat at all times.

Yes, 6 is higher than 5.5. I think the Hatcher comes in an L-2 version and it's supposed to be a Peca clone, that's a 7.
