Sakic curve has too much loft!

Recommended Posts

As I posted before, I bought an Easton 'one' with the sakic curve. I am happy with the overall feel, etc. of the stick, but I'm having a very difficult time adjusting to the curve. I like the 5.5 lie over my old 6, but the twisty loft at the end is screwing me up! My shots are sailing at least 4 feet over the net, and I can't hit it to save my life. It's frustating because I visually pick my corner or my spot, and my shot goes nowhere near it. I never had this problem with my closed face Yzerman. Is there anything I can do to alleviate this?

Thanks!

You have a different curve, you have to learn to shoot differently. Roll your wrists more so the blade is face down on your follow through.

sell your stick

Sadly, I have thought of this!

I'll try rolling my wrists more tonight to see if I can adjust. Grrr.. 10 years of using an Yzerman does this to you.

Well, sorta, but not really. I could have found a gaborik, but didn't like it. I mostly switched because i needed a lower lie. No Forsbergs around, so i went with a slight mid, 5.5 lie. I think I'd eventually like to go to a forsberg. I'll make do with this till it breaks (could be a while!)

you will like the forsberg curve. i tried my friend's sakic curve and all my shots lift too high also. it takes getting used to. i use the forsberg.

I ought to. I don't mind a heel curve one bit. I often take snap shots, never slap shots, plus I like to have more surface area and sweet spot to catch and give passes.

The unfortunate thing is, I'm so light, and NEVER go hard on my sticks. The last stick I broke was a Z bubble, and that took almost 2 years! :o

:D I went through a bit of the same-I used to use the Lemieux curve that Koho made but after a 6 yr break from Hockey due to a DUI hitting me I couldnt find them any more-ended up going to a Hossa curve-the first 15 minutes of a stick and puck I couldnt hit my a## with both hands-Once I adjusted to it though I discoverd that I was actually shooting better-I have always had a hard time getting a good lift on a backhand and can really roof it now!!

Patience grasshopper and you will see the light

So I went to rat hockey last night, and tried rolling my wrists, amongst other things. Worked sort of well.

I do notice, when standing still taking shots, that unless the puck is close to my body, the whole blade is NOT on the floor. Where I like to take shots from (further from my body) the whole toe and mid of the blade is not touching. I assume even the 5.5 lie is too high for me. Anyone think I ought to check out a 5 or even 4.5? the only way I could get a good shot off, or stickhandle with the sweet spot on the floor is if I held my top hand high at my chest, and at a high angle.

Thoughts?

A different lie may or may not be the solution. Although I am no specialist (aka Chadd and JR), it could just be getting used the rocker of the blade. I have a sackic as well, and when I have to shoot the puck when its close to my body, I move my hand down to put the toe on the ice.

You need a lower lie. The smaller rocker and lower lie on a modano/forsberg/pm9/Tkachuk, etc... should work better.

I can't shoot to save my life with a 5.5, I've been using mostly 5 or lower lies for so long that it's too much of a change for me.

The Gaborik is a 5.5 lie Yzerman that's what i'm using

Yep, I know. I wanted to get away from the monster mid curve though!
