I found a broken Vic Velocity OPS. I'm in Canada. Is this a painted-over something-or-other that was sold as a SMU? Would it be worth the time to make a shaft out of it?

I made a Vic Velocity "shaft" a month ago.

Very hard to get the taper right. Also very weak walls.

Broke when I was inserting a blade in!

Had to cut it off. Now it is a slightly wide taper shaft.

what color is it?

Black with blue graphics. A teammate of mine had this stick. It felt really hollow and unbalanced. Can't go wrong with something free though. Makes a perfect stick to shoot around with in your driveway.

My black and blue one is still in one piece. The other one ("shaft) )is Silver, with black and orange graphics.

They have various runs of these sticks. Some are better balanced than others; some have higher carbon-to-glass content; some have thinner blades.

The Vic Firestorm I believe were the best ones.

but a free stick-shaft is never a bad thing

Words to live by, right up there with free beer and dry socks......................

I'm glad I'm not the only trash-picking shaft scavenger out there.

Thanks for the info everyone. Finding OPSes broken in or near the blade is how I get my shafts nowadays. Especially now, nearing the end of the season.

I think I will try the conversion if I can get some extra time. First I have a pro-stock R2XN10 OPS to finish converting.

Hey Ktang, any luck turning the VIC into a shaft? I just found one too. Did you have to cut it or can you heat and pull out the blade? If you cut it, where did you make the cut?

I have been busy playing hockey! Then I have to plan a move to Calgary (work-related)!

But, I can describe what I found: it's a Vic Velocity 799 OPS Pro 55 Regular. There is virtually no taper to it, so what I plan to do is convert it into a standard shaft. I think I will be able to do so by cutting low and working my way up.

In the past I have tried to heat-and-pull XN10 and Response (original) OPSes, and either I'm not strong enough or I am too chicken to heat them enough. I ended up cutting and chiseling with pretty decent results. When I get around to this Vic I will also cut and chisel.

But, if you get to it first, please let us know how it went!
