I was just watching OLN and a pane of the glass just got completely knocked through in the PHX LA game. It kind of reminded me of the WWE, and the same thing with when Ovechkin hammered that guy at the beginning of the season. I was wondering if there are any (sane) rules that would make the NHL a more entertaining game.

Basically, do we think we can do a better job than the competition comitee?

Yeah, drop a half dozen teams so the average skill level of each player increases. Then stop tinkering with the rules.

My first thing would be to dump the illegal curve rule. Then mandate visors to all rookies and everyone else who comes through. If guys fight though, they have to take off thier bucket though.

Should they make wearing foil legal?

They need to cut the season to about 50 games. When you compare a playoff game versus a January game, it's obvious that guys are holding back on the physical play to save their bodies.

And totally kill the spontaneous, emotion filled fighting completely.

"Pardon me, sir. I wish to engage in fisticuffs with you. Would you kindly remove your helmet so that we may parry."

then salaries would go down and the players would strike. i wouldnt mind seeing this changed though.

In theory, there would be a higher demand for each game... therefore you could sell the tickets at a higher price. I imagine it would somewhat balance out.

Simply? A system of promotion and relegation. Soccer's system has been in nearly world- wide for ages.

-Obviously with the NHL as the Premier League...

The top 4 teams in the division move up to the next division, with all the monetary rights that go with that.

The bottom 4 teams in each division get relegated to the division below. This puts some added incentive, as it ultimately affects a team's bottom line which means it adds incentive for the players.

Teams in smaller non-NHL towns can climb their way up the ladder, and NHL teams that suck can rebuild...

It's simplistic, and there are lots of stickythings like deciding what leagues are re-organised into what divisions [1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.] but we're just shooting the proverbial breeze...

That would only work if they restructure the NHL itself. Way too many issues to ever make that work.

I think it's in most of Europe as well, but in England there isn't a draft to speak of, like there is in the NBA or the NFL or the MLS or the NHL...most young players are either signed by clubs and placed into their youth system or get noticed playing for clubs from lower divisions/other countries etc.
