Can't believe none of you gear geeks haven't mentioned this ...

Tackla 5000X is the pro pant.

Tackla 5000 is NOT the pro pant.

http://www.discounthockey.com/tahp50seiceh.html

big difference.

Montreal (the US importer for Tackla) only offers the 5000X this year. Same for last year.

so does that mean all 2006 5000's are 5000x's? i thought that the 5000's that you could get at your LHS were different than the 5000x's like sdh said?

I got Tackla 5000's because I was getting hip pointers. They are great pants, have zippers and the like. I got them over the 9000's and the 5000X's because I didn't want to fork over the extra coin. Great protection (I play in front of the net and in the corners), good mobility and pretty light. Anything above the 5000 will give you an increase in protection but I've been extremely pleased with the 5K's. You can't go wrong with these pants.

It's easy to tell the difference between the pro pant and the regular pant. The regular "5000" has laces and a belt and the "5000X" or pro pant has 2 belts and no laces. The "5000" is still a good pant if you want more mobility and a lighter pant.

I have no clue about the 9000 and where that fits in. Seems like it is just tackla's more modern top of the line pant? I know the 5k pro pant hasn't changed much in 10 years.

the 5000x looks nice and i wouldn't mind picking them up. but i'm not sure what chadd meant by Montreal only releasing the 5000x's. and where would you get them other than discounthockey.com or somewhere online? i see the regular 5000's at my LHS, but not the x's. i'm confused like usual :P

I'm just looking at the price lists for the last two years and the only 5k listed is the X.

I got Tackla 951 Advantage and they are awesome. not to heavy and plenty of padding. I thought it was going to take a bit to work them in but I have not had any problem with them yet.

I am in the US and getting them mail order was not a problem.

I wrote a review for them but it's not posted up there yet.........don't know why.
