NBH ONE90 Initial Thoughts

Recommended Posts

You knew this was coming...LOL...I feel like a kid on XMas...I don't work today and I'm in my pjs awaiting the FedEx truck...

Got my ONE90s today along with my field tester booklet. They ended up being left foot 10.25 EE/B right foot 10.5 EE/B. They are a custom skate. I didn't do anything to the boot other than the size. I went with LS2 Power but added heel lifts to them.

Threw them on and they feel really, really stiff. Granted I've been in Mission S500s for the past 3 years so it is a rude awakening for me.

A few observations - I got one NBH outsole and one Bauer one...LOL...hey, they're unique! Also, the tendon guard is solid - not like the retail one that has the vents.

Need longer laces too...108" isn't cutting it.

I will skate them on Wed. Will update this as we go.

Mad love goes out to Chris and the gang at NBH RR&D. I really hope this is the solution to my foot problems.

Nice! Keep us posted.

Finished with the NBH scans. Zipping them and uploading to SendSpace.

I'll email you, and you can upload it. Damn 100 pages took forever!

Crashed my scanner halfway through!

I have been using Graf 705's forever. How do you think I would like these? I have continued to use Tuuks with my Grafs from day 1.

I traced my foot, then took a measuring tape and measured four areas of my foot. Mailed them the form, and they make a custom last off of the shape and the measurements. What is cool is that I can feel the bulges in the skate that were the bumps on my feet. There is no real set size on the skate. The size is written down inside the skate.

On Great skate they are now making pre orders for the June 1st release. Will they be sending the skates out to people who pre-order them that day or will they wai a few days to ship them?

JR,

I am currently skating pro stock XXX's. You say they feel stiff, especially compaired to your Missions, but how would they compare to my skates. Also, I ordered mine custom as well but didn't do the tracing of my foot. Have you done this before or did they ask you to do that so you got the most perfect fit? Is that always an option when ordering custom skates from NBH and other manufacturers? The person who I ordered mine from at Southern Sports Supply didn't mention that as a fitting option? I am pretty sure my feet are slightly different in size and that sounds like a great thing to do! Enjoy those One90's! They may be my next skate.

I got #2 stiffness, which is the retail stiffness. I followed the directions that is given to stores to do custom skates. If SSS didn't give you a custom size or a trace, what did you get custom? That is strange. I thought Chuck Thuss had a ton of college/ECHL business.

I got custom widths (E) and stiffness (pro stock) and an A heel though I think that is stock. They also drilled holes in the bottom (didn't ask for that but they did it) and they used different footbeds. I am offiliated with a college program and that is why I got them from him. I also got them before they were available to the public. Also they came with solid rather than perforated steel. He didn't offer the trace though. I will do that for sure with my next pair. Do you know Chuck? He seems like a nice guy over the phone. It was my first pair of "custom" skates and I didn't know all of the options that I had and how they would/could affect my skating. Why do you get the heel lifts?

Yeah, looks like they just got you a prostock skate.

Keep in mind that there's an upcharge for custom options and you can change a whole lot to the skate.

I got the heel lifts because the last time I skated a Bauer skate (tested 8090 about two years ago) I needed a forward radius as well as heel lifts - too much of a negative pitch.

Yeah, that is how I understood what I was getting. Thanks for the info. Is there an upcharge for getting the different sized skates? Cost isn't really an issue, just wondering. My skates fit great but my left skate could be a tad wider than my right. If I was to do a tracing that info would be apperant to those making the skates.
