OPS - How to cut?

Recommended Posts

So I recently bought a Mission M-1 and after the first game is has the whole loose/cracked sound whenever its tapped on the ground... Keep in mind I'm still yet to break my first stick playing...

I was told that it might have been due to me cutting two inches off the top with a band saw...

This leads me to the question... How should I cut this stick???

Mission M1 blades aren't known for their durability...i only managed 3-5 pickup games with them before a huge crack developed on the heel of my blade.

The two inches on top has nothing to do with the breakage.

Use the search button to find a response... There must be atleast three topics on cutting OPS.

If you don't use something designed for cutting composite material, you can have problems like this one.

So, Chadd, am I reading this right? You are saying that if I use the wrong blade to cut the butt end of my stick, it can effect blade durability? I can't see how, but maybe I'm missing something.

Im no professional or anything, but if that is true, my guess would be that it has to with the "strands" or fibers of the composite material. Maybe if you cut it with something too dull, a couple of the fibre's might come lose and start to vibrate and etc. That would be my guess, but Im not sure.

What sort of tool is appropriate for cutting composite material?

i used a hacksaw to cut my Stealth. it works fine, no rattles or anything.

when u cut ur OPS did u cut all of the butt end off? if u didnt what is rattleing could be loose glue from the butt end. this happened to me on my synergy before i broke it.

Noit the blade, but I've seen it cause things to rattle in the shaft. I either use a chop saw with a disc for cutting composite materials or a hack saw with a blade for cutting composites. You can get the blades at any golf club making supply shop.
