CCM last

Recommended Posts

Basically says it all. Has there been any change in last? is there a difference in the width of the old Super Tacks compared to the newer Tacks? i.e. Bauer 8090 going back to the older high volume fit? I like the older "fit", I think I'm not the only one from looking at other threads about all time fav skates.

The Tacks line fits very similar over time. It's being buildt around the proven Tacks last. Not at all that high volume 8090 fit. A snug fit in the heel and ample of room in the forefoot area. Actually, thats one thing i like with CCM skates. They dont mess it up every second year like Nike does, with their huge toebox...

I was under the impression that Bauer was alternating their series. Before the 8090 came out, they released the Vapor XX, and after the 8090, they released the XXX. Now they're putting out a new line of 90s. Do the Vapors have the same last as the Supreme 8000?

What does 'higher volume' mean?

The 8090 is supposed to be wider than the other Bauers. If you like CCMs, which I think are known to be wider than most Bauers, I'd think that you'd like the fit of the 8090 more.

Good description. Haven't seen that one before. I even talk about volume to running shoe stores they they don't get it either.

Edit: If Tacks had a little more volume they'd be my perfect skate....oh well, they're close though. (And while they're at it they could make the arch a bit higher...oh dare to dream)

I beg to differ.

I've got two pairs of 752 kevlars, size 6D and one pair of 852's, I believe 2nd generation also size 6d and the 752's definitely have a higher arch and slightly wider forefoot as well as a slightly narrower heel.

Also got an old pair of ccm 352's and the forefoot on those is so narrow, it's unbearable for me.

However I don't know if the low end models (352 use the same last as the high end tacks).

One thing is for sure as far as fit is concerned. CCM has a wider middle and forefoot area than Bauers do. That's what makes them so comfortable and why I don't even consider a Bauer skate anymore. Don't get me wrong I liked the on ice feel of Bauers but I got so tired of having my feet squeezed in and sore while I played, and the pins and needles feeling, taking them off after the game. I get the same thing with Grafs or Mission skates so I don't bother with them either. Only Eastons come close to the same feel although I still need to go to a EE in them as well. Eastons tend to have a slightly narrower toe so all models of them don't always fit me either. I've personally found the Nike V-10 or V-12 are extremely comfortable but a little sloppy feeling because of the wider toe cap. I would take either one over a lot of the Bauer models except maybe the 8090 which I have found to be an exceptional fit for a Bauer skate. Unfortunately I am converted to CCM so I'll never find out how the 8090 performs on the ice. ;)
