ShakeAndBake9 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2006 I have had Vapor 4's for a long time now and need new ones badly. I saw the Bauer Vapor 8 and the Vapor THG's which seemed to be the closest to the 3 ppiece design I have now.I am also looking at hte Bauer 6000 elbow pads and the RBK 5k's as a way of dropping off some bulk but no shop around here has them. How much of a difference in mobility would I get from the 3 piece to the 2 piece?Does less bulk=more mobility?Any thought on alternatives would help a lot too. Thanks. devilsrule711 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2006 my nike V-24's are a tad bulky but are not restrictive ive never used a 3 piece system before so i wouldnt know but the V-14 hugs the forearm nicely and in the biceps its like not having anything there there's justs like a floating pad
ShakeAndBake9 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2006 How would you say they compare to these left over nike V10's?http://www.thehockeyshop.com/Merchant2/mer...CIALS
devilsrule711 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2006 well they cant be very differnet but it looks like that they wouldnt be as snug in the forearm as the V-14 cause it looks like theres no slash guard so they wouldnt be as tight but ive never tried em on so i cant so for sure
A2rhino 63 Report post Posted March 26, 2006 I have been using a pair of Jofa 9144 PROs now the RBK 7Ks and think they feel great.
asdfa 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2006 How would you say they compare to these left over nike V10's?http://www.thehockeyshop.com/Merchant2/mer...CIALS these are really amazing elbow pads for the money, dri fit liner, fits well and are as mobile as you need
ShakeAndBake9 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2006 How would you compare them to the Bauer 6000's? In terms of bulk and mobility?I noticed the bauer 6000 has a small strip of padding across the middle thin strap that goes over the bend in the elbow. I really like this feature and would like an elbow pad with that pad. I can't stand the small strap cutting into my arm anymore. Also any suggestions for something like that but with decent forearm protection? I am looking to buy new elbow pads in a week and really got a lot of help from you guys before. So any suggestions help a lot. Thanks.

The Vapor 8's, the THG'S, and the 8000's are pretty much the same design as the old vapor 4. If you can find a pair of the vapor 6s they are a pretty decent pad. All in all they are pretty much the same pad with varying features.
ShakeAndBake9 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 I think the 2 piece is the way to go for me now. From what I can see I was only able to try on the Bauer 6000's and they seemed fine except I'd like to look at a higher end model which may give more mobility.I can't tell online, does the nike v-14 or the v-10's and the rbk 5k's have that comfort strip (the small strip of padding in the bend of the elbow that goes under the middle strap)? Also, do any of those pads have any sort of design where you have to slip your arm into a sock type of thing before you strap the pad on? I really hate any equipment that have sock/slide in only designs.
devilsrule711 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 well in the V series you dont have to slip into it i do cause i have mine the way i like em and dont want to screw it up
ShakeAndBake9 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 Do you know if the V series has the comfort strip in the bend of the elbow?
devilsrule711 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 what do you mean?where the elbow bends there is just and elastic strap
ShakeAndBake9 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 If you look at the Bauer 6000 elbow pad, the thin middle strap can't cut into the bend of your elbow because diectly under it there is a pad called a "comfort strip"You can see it here:http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/I/...y_1891_24515520BTW, from the 8000 or the Vapor 8's I am used to the side bicept pad in that shape, I would like it to be no more than about 1 inch shorter (bc it bothers my shoulder pads) How much bicept protection is there in the V series compared to the 6000/8000/vapor 8 shaped bicept pad? devilsrule711 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 no they dont have anything like that just th eelastic strapbut if you liked the vapor 4's why not upgrade and get the 8's
Chadd 916 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 I don't care for 2 piece elbow pads. I either use 1 or 3 piece (then cut off the cuff). I never tried a protective pad that was anywhere near as mobile as the DR EP44. They're very mobile and protective and fairly inexpensive as well.
Edge 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 I like the 3 piece system because they stay on better than 2 piece ones too me(such as the Synergy/Stealth pads) only problem i've noticed is that the 3 piece pads have pretty bulky elbow caps.
ShakeAndBake9 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 I just am kind of tired of the vapor 8 design, it is a little too bulky and I don't like the mobility. I am getting rid of them prematurely bc of that. They also slip down a little. I also hate how the middle strap cuts into my arm and pinches. I think an upgrade to a 2 piece sytem might help solve the bulk issue and the mobility issue if I get a higher end 2 piece elbow pad. I am looking for a 2 piece, one that is a little less bulky than the 3 piece vapor 8, more mobile and a little shorter where it comes up to the shoulder pad by about 1 inch. I also want it to be pretty solid by the forearm protection bc I get slashed a lot just above my glove(this was the only feature I like on the Vapor 8's).As for now, it looks like the v14's are the way to go but any suggestions for elbow pads that fit those criteria will help a lot. I wish I could try them on around here.
Roach 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2006 I've never gotten used to a 2 or a 3 piece elbow pad. I'm on a 1-piece old school Jofa which I strap on tight onto my forearms. No slippage that way and I've never had any problems with mobility either.
ShakeAndBake9 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 Does anybody know if the Bauer 8000 elbow pad is more bulky than the nike v 14?I saw the v14 and it isn't bad but I was told the Bauer 8000 is not as bulky as the Vapor 8 pad. If anybody can help me with this then I think I'm ready to buy a pair.
devilsrule711 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2006 the 8000 is a bit bulkier but i think the kid on my team tht had em just had a bigger size than he needed.
