Trying to fix Kor problem again...

Recommended Posts

So heres the deal I had the ankle problem with Kor, and contacted vince, he told me to just get it punched out. I went to my LHS a while ago and did that. It was still hurting so I just put a gel pad in the area where it hurt. It fixed the problem for a while untill the pad got trashed. I took a while off because I played this year with a broken ankle. The other night was the first time I skated with out the gel pad and it cut my ankle up again. I have tried everythign to fix the problem and it just seems like nothing will do it. Gel pads help but there shot after about a week. Should I contact Vince again and see what to do? I was wondering if you guys have any ideas, thanks in advance.

Take then back to the LHS and get your money back or exchange them for something else. These skates are not for you and that's OK. Get something your comfortable with and forget about em.

These skates are the best skates ive skated on and I want to keep them, this whole situation is just really pissing me off. I got these from my cousin in Canada, so I can't take them to my LHS or get an exchange, I just want this problem fixed. I am wondering if the new kors have it fixed or not?

Where on your ankle is it cutting?

Is it the famous seam at the top of the boot? Mine rubs a little on my ankles, but it's above the ankle "nub" and really doesn't hurt. It did break the skin, but it's not really in a sensitive area for me. My solution was to put my skate socks on, then wrap the area with clear plastic tape which acted like a band-aid. I had no rubbing problems.

Chadd seems to have the most experience with this, so I'd contact him. In the meantime, just make sure you have an extra gel pad and don't forget it!

Yep its exactly where you are talking about. I tried that and it still hurts when I do crossovers. I just want the problem completly fixed. I'll contact Chadd when I have some time and hopefully he can help me out. Thanks.

I think the default solution is to re-heat the area in question and stick a piece of foam in the part that is rubbing your ankle. This effectively bows out the top of the boot and is supposed to alleviate the problem.

Worst case, take them to a shoe repair place or something similar and have them sow a protective piece of something where it is rubbing.

I have never seen anyone have any type of problems with the ankle, so I'm not going to be any help. It sounds like the skate is way too tight to me.

I'm also going to agree with Chadd on the theory of the skates being way too tight. The problem I had is that my right skate was rubbing on my ankle bone down inside the skate not where you are talking about. I think the whole scenario that I had can be related to the problem that you are describing though even though they are quite different.

I fixed my problem by heating my skate up with a hair dryer or heat gun and stuffing a tennis ball down inside. I thought I had the problem fixed after I skated on them again and I didn't put the tennis ball back inside. Next game the skate killed me again. I heated the skate again and now I leave the tennis ball in between games all the time. I haven't had a problem since. It just seems that the skate wants to pull back in and reform without the tennis ball in there.

Now lets say that you are having the same problem except it's at the top of the boot. It may be a simple problem to fix because that shouldn't really be rubbing against your ankle like that and because of how tight the skates grip the bottom of your foot there really is no need for it to be that tight around your ankle. So heat it up and find something that fits in there but stretches it out. basically just find some way to stretch that out. You may need to find something to keep it stretched in between games just like I had to do for my problem.

My skates have been perfect since I started doing this. Just take that idea and apply it to your situation and it may work.

I hear ya and am glad it worked out for you. I was following your adventures with the skate while I was deciding if I wanted to try them or not.

So far, I've been very happy with the skates. Honestly, I wouldn't be very happy if I had to stick a tennis ball in my skate after each use. Nothing really wrong with it, but I'm sure I'd be second guessing my purchase.

I initially laced the Kor's a little to tightly and had some minor lacebite problems, so I left them pretty loose and tried to get a good knee bend while lacing them. Eventually, the tongue broke in a little more and I can tie them a little tighter. I don't exactly see how you guys can skate with the top 2-3 eyelets loose on this skate. I tried it and it was ok turning and striding, but I felt I needed more support on cross overs, etc. Anyway, I'm very happy now as I've got them tight enough for my needs, but they still allow me to get good forward flex.

John,

I could never skate with the top eyelets undone either. I do notice that I don't tie these skates nearly as tight as my old pairs that I had though.

As far as the tennis ball thing. It's really no big deal. Somewhere along the line someone posted that they heard it's common for speed skaters to do something similar. It was an easy fix to a pretty painful problem. It worked and the skates are without a doubt the best skates I've ever had for both comfort and performance.

Cool, I thought I might have been missing something! :P

I agree with you though, most comfortable and best skates I've ever owned.

I'm the crazy ass cracker who skated with the top three eyelets open. I only did that once or twice but it didn't bother me at all.

Try sewing a piece of leather over it or something?

You could be pulling the top eyelet too tight, getting a little bit of a fold over effect which is causing the top of the skate to turn into your ankle. Try heating that portion of the skate inside and out with a heatgun and tying your skates as normal a couple of times. This will get the whole are of the skate to close and keep the top from folding over. It is similar to the problem a lot of folks had with the first generation of Synergy skates.

I could just be that the skates don't agree with your foot in that area. If you have tried re-baking with a peice of stiff foam over the affected area to bow-out the boot - if that doesn't work then I can only think of one solution:

Tape your ankles. Not tight or anything.

It'll take 2 minutes - wrap on some second skin - then tape your ankle a few times over the area in question. That will keep the boot from rubbing through your sock onto your skin. A protective layer for that area that is getting chafed.

It may seem liken a pain to do each time you skate - but if you love the skates as much as I do - then it is worth it IMHO.

BTW - I have had no problems with my Kors. Sorry to hear yours are causing issues.
