Recommended Posts

Here's a breakdown of the Leafs situation

Signed

Mats Sundin 6.84, Tomas Kaberle 4.25, Darcy Tucker 1.596, Jeff O'Neill 1.5, Tie Domi 1.25, Wade Belak 0.665, Alex Steen 0.720, J.S. Aubin 0.525, Alex Ponikarovsky .700, Staffan Kronvall 0.600, Andy Wozniewski 0.450, Ben Ondrus 0.470, Chad Kilger 0.900, Total under contract $20.47 million, Including Belfour's buyout $21.97 million

8 forwards

4 defense (although Woz and Belak won't likely play)

1 goalie

Need 4 more forwards, 4 more defensemen, and a goalie

Guaranteed RFA's:

Stajan(900k up from 806k), Wellwood(800k up from 627k), Colaiacovo (950k up from 860k)

That is $2.65 million

Approximately $24.62 total

Likely RFA's:

1 of [White, White, Harrison], 1 of [suglobov, Antropov], Tellqvist (although he likely won't get in unless a starter isn't found).

This is $1.8 million

Approximately $26.42

Leaving 2 Fwd spots, 2 D spots and a starting goalie spot

Roughly what I figured. I heard 900K a year. Under the league minimum, he's a good 3rd liner who kills penalties.

I thought the Min was $450,000....is that the new minimum nased on a 45Mil cap?

Thanks Chadd, I edited it and must have screwed it up in the process.

I'm hoping when the Cap goes up the Leafs get some real players for Mats.

I've always liked Kilger, teams just seemed to have higher expectations than he was capable of meeting. A lot like Chris Gratton's situation.

Eazy,

I heard O'Neill was retiring next year due to fear of flying. You hear that?

That was mentioned on HNIC.

considering the way Aubin has played the last 10 games (minus the buffalo game), what's wrong with starting Aubin with telly in backup?

Basing that kind of decision on 10 games isn't usually very smart.

Aubin didn't play in the Buffalo game. I'm with Chadd on this one. Although Aubin had a good stretch, I wouldn't want to risk a whole season on him and Tellqvist together.

Telly will be a back-up plan incase they don't get a real goalie over the summer. Aubin's on a 1-way deal. If they opt to go with Telly, it'll be a 1a/1B, like Minny did before unloading Roloson. There are some good goalies available, Biron and one of Toskola/Nabakov will likely be moved, Legace, Gerber and Huet are UFAs as well.

Kosy- Yes, I have heard that. He's apperantly one of the most liked players on the team, so I find it a little odd for him to bring it up now. However I cannot imagine having to play in the NHL with something like that. Same with Corson and those night terrors or whatever he had.

Biron is probably unavailable to them unless they work out some three way deal.

I believe the Sharks are going to keep both goalies. The GM really likes the tandem so I'm assuming they'll keep it going. Toskala's upstaging Nabokov and after yesterday's loss, Nabokov isn't looking great. His new contract states that he cannot be traded if the Sharks make the playoffs this year, and they have. I'm pretty sure the Sharks won't be letting go of Toskala either... so yeah.

Why would they keep Nabokov as a multimillion dollar back-up? They'll have to decide which direction they'll go. They may keep both, but I can't see it happening. Nabby would waive his no-trade if they told him he won't be starting.

SJ also has Nolan Schaefer in the "A". He's gonna be ready soon. He's a good goalie but not ready to be a #1...I think Nabby leaves (via trade in the off season), and after Kipper...I doubt they send another goalie to someone in the West...Nabby comes East.

To who in the East? Tampa is the only team that really needs a number one goalie.
