anyone who has played hockey has heard there coach say you gotta play old school hockey ive been playing for 10 yrs and play aaa and hs but still do not understand the exact way to play old school hockey

I dont know what they want either, but what pops into my head when i hear anything like that is very defensive and error-less. if your on defense get it out of the zone and on offense just get shots shots shots.

i guess i just play strict defense when something like that comes up that way theres nothing they can be mad about

I believe it means play physical. Dump the puck. Shoot from anywhere. And crash the net looking for garbage goals.

I know my coach... sometimes when he says that he is implying he wants some blood on a jersey before the end of the period. He played some pretty rough Senior AAA hockey back in the day. But when he's thinking clearly ... he probably also means that we need to stop the showmanship and start doing the hard work in front of the nets, in the corners etc. to get the tough goals.

old time hockey is pure grit no dangles and moves all the essentials in the corners in front of the net, and if you got hte shot take it

that confused me a little bit too...

i've got another random one too:

we've got this game at my rink that a coworker taught me...you watch nearly any kids hockey game and just listen to the parents yell - then apply everything they say to a bedroom situation. sounds dull but it can be pretty amusing...

then again, during 8 hour shifts, just about anything starts to get more amusing. something about not seeing natural light messes with me after a while i think.
