mack 44 Report post Posted April 29, 2006 That means they'll draft him.
LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 Well the Lions did screw up and took a LB with concussion problems at #9.A lot of people are saying the Bills had a terrible draft with two reaches in the first round. That might be true, but I think Whitner is going to be a stud. McCargo is very good as well, if he can stay healthy. As an Eagles fan, I loved the draft. Great value with both offensive line picks. The only problem I have is that I thought their O-line was already pretty good (with some minor tweaks needed). I really wanted to upgrade the skill positions (main WR and a DB for the future). Getting Javon Walker would've been nice (GB turned down a 2nd and 4th.... they'd only take a 1st from the Eagles).I really liked the Packers draft. Hawk is great and I think Greg Jennings could turn out to be a very good WR. Abdul Hodge, Colledge, and Spitz are all solid players and Ingle Martin looked great at the combine. akhockey 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 Lions always find a way to screw up. I personally think they should have drafted Leinart, but they already signed 2 qb's so it didn't seem possible. Other than the first round pick, there other picks were actually pretty decent.
LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 I'm not sure I liked Calhoun in the 3rd. I just don't think he'll be a great pro.I do like Sims, but it was a more than questionable pick at #9. Then again, the way the draft fell, they didn't have much of a choice between a QB, Sims, or trading down.I though Jon Scott in the 5th was a really good pick. Not sure why he slid so far.I'm guessing the Bills thought the Lions would pick Whitner with Huff off the board, which is why their pick looks like such a reach. mack 44 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 I'm good with getting Cutler in the first and Walker for a 2nd. After seeing the Broncos move up and pass on a WR I was wondering what was up till that deal came thru.
Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 I admit I don't follow college ball much, so maybe Cutler is outstanding, but I thought trading #15 plus a third rounder, to move up four spots to get a guy who is going to sit at least a year, was too much to spend.Different topic, I halfway like the Pats' draft a lot, and I'm halfway disappointed. They seemed to need linebackers and maybe cornerbacks, yet they didn't address those needs too much. However, they were able to pick up guys who may have been second rated at their positions -- Laurence Maroney at RB and Chad Jackson at WR -- which is pretty good when starting at #21.Their offense should be solid next year, although they probably could use another good receiver. Their D-line will be excellent, while linebacking will be thin. I think the secondary will be proficient but lacking the shut down corner.
LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 The first two picks were good. Jackson was a little overrated, but they got good value taking him where they did. I probably would've taken DeAngelo Williams instead of Maroney, but Maroney will be a good player and may fit better in New England. What baffled me is the two TE picks they had in the 3rd and 4th rounds. How many do they need? Also, keep an eye out for LeKevin Smith. I'm not sure how deep the Pats defensive line is, but he could fit in well behind Wilfork or even Seymour (he's big, but may be athletic enough to backup that DE/DT position that Seymour plays). mack 44 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 Out of the two I'm taking Maroney. Not sure on how his hands are, but no way can they be worse than Williams's hands.

Getting Javon Walker would've been nice (GB turned down a 2nd and 4th.... they'd only take a 1st from the Eagles). It worked out well for them since they were considering moving up to 8 to take the DT and got him with their pick anyway.
Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 What baffled me is the two TE picks they had in the 3rd and 4th rounds. How many do they need? It definitely seemed strange but their explanation makes sense. Belichick favors the power game, so they run a lot of two tight end sets. However, they only have Grahman and Watson on the roster, so the first TE drafted would be to back up those two; the second TE only weighs 232, so I think they're looking at him to be a pass catching fullback. mik3 1 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 Thomas is sick, and the TE out of Tulsa is good. Two TEs are quickly replacing having a FB that's why everyone's stocking up on them.
LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2006 Garrett Mills looks like he'd be a great H-back, but I didn't know the Pats used an H-back.
Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted May 4, 2006 Ever since Parcells was there, they've liked the fullback to release to the side after his block as an insurance policy.
