To have kids or to not have kids...

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone was going to say that they would have done something different. I have heard it from a few people before who have kids. I agree with you regarding the decision - its not for a board to make.

my son is awsome he's 2 1/2. he is just like me at that age. when we play with legos he is always destorying what i build. but he's into the dustrusction thing now, what can i do? i enjoy every moment i have with him.

things i like

watching hockey with him. he used to laugh at don cherry.

walking around the lake

his first few words.

hearing him say "dada"

taking a nap with him everyday.

food all over his face after a meal.

things i don't like

sleepless nights

potty training

dirty diapers

temper tantrums

but i know that this is only the beinging. though i would not trade him for anything. my wife and i are fourtunate because i get to stay home with him while she goes to work. i think that having a parent home with a young child is very important, and we won't change that. there are too many things that can have a negitive influence on a young child that we as parents can't control that we need to exercise that control at a young age to instill proper moral and ethic into our kids, something a daycare center may not ba able to do.

think long and hard about your choice. IT will change your lifein ways you can never thing of.

good luck with you desicion.

"I was wondering if anyone was going to say that they would have done something different. I have heard it from a few people before who have kids."

Of course we would do some things different. There is no owners manual for kids and part of being a parent is learning from your mistakes. You WILL make mistakes-but if you look to the positive side and the old qoute "If it doesnt kill you it makes you stronger" helps you become a better parent.

The thing that I dont have is regrets. I know that I have done the best I can for my family given circumstances at that time. To me changing things you could versus regrets are two entirely different issues.

Things I would change if I could:

Taking steps to be more financially secure sooner.

Investing in private schooling for them sooner

Being closer to their Grandparents.

Being more helpful to the Mrs. when the kids were really little.

Learning patience sooner.

Being more of a "Christmas" person. (Bah-Humbug)

Having a daughter-Although I reconsider this with the BS my brother-in-law is dealing with his 17yo daughter

Things I would not change:

The mother of my children.

The time I have spent with them.

The memories that I have, be it good or bad.

The individuals that they are.

The morals and ethics that we have taught them.

The successes and failures that they have had.

The unbelievably scary realization that you are going to be a parent.

The incredible feeling when that childs says "I love you Daddy"

One thing to realize-when you become a parent it is for life, not just 18 or 20 years-you have an obligation to that child for life.
