The reason I ask is because I've been experimenting with the way I lace my skates.

I've tried it with some of the eyelets unlaced, but I only like the top eyelet unlaced out of the unlaced choices. The top two unlaced makes it feel like there's less support in the skate.

Whenever I tried wrapping the laces around the back of the skate, it made me feel less mobile.

So what I prefer is either the top eyelet unlaced or all of them laced up..

I also included the with or without socks in the options because I recently tried skating "barefoot" and loved it. The skate feels much better like that.

ive always laced them all up, firm the whole way, dont wrap em, but sometimes i wrap tape once around, i used to never wear socks and it would trash the skates, now i wear thin sani socks

In the past few years I moved from socks in loose ankles to the stiffest boot I can find with no socks. I am also hooked on sharper skates. With the stiffer boots, i found initially that my mobility suffered, however without socks, on the stiffer boots, I can now make some crazy one foot turn moves.

I wear mine tight through the forefoot and then I do the warmups with the top three untied and the lacelock on.

Then I tie them up and go.

I wear the knee high underarmour socks.

I also like my skates super sharp, usually after every 2 ice times I get mine done. I get much better turns and accelleration.

Snug in the ball of my foot

Just snug enough midway to keep my heel locked

a bit loose in the top 3 or 4 eyelets for flex (new Bauer 7000's-super stiff!)

On my old 3000's I kept them snug all the way up, They flexed well.

Always been a barefooter

I use waxed laces also-the areas that you want tight will stay tight and the areas you want loose will stay loose

You need to watch wrapping tape or laces around the top of the boot-too tight and it can jack with your achilles tendon and cause swelling of the sheath that protects it-very painful!! :(

The few times I tried it I didnt care for it-I felt that it inhibited forward flex

I very lightly tighten every lace up until the top four eyelets then i tie the fourth from the top tight, the third from the top looser, i skip the second eylet and tighten the top one very tight. It's kind of strange but it's the most comfortable way for me. i also only sharpen my skates about once or twice every month.

I occassionally do top eyelet unlaced, but with my S500s, it's usually not necessary to still get a lot of foward flex.

And for the "socks vs no socks" -- IMO there's a big difference between thin socks (like UA or, what I use, the Wigwam footliner) and regular athletic socks.

Do you mean socks, like in the skate(on your foot) or over the tongue?(socks that cover your shin pads)

Top eyelet unlaced without socks. I might buy some OxySocks next season if I could get used to them. Oh and if I'm wearing a really stiff boot (Vector Pro/ZG130 w/e) then I'll leave the top 2 unlaced.

Sorry, to clarify, I meant the socks that you wear on your feet.

I've been thinking about getting a really thin sock.. because it takes a lot to keep your skates from smelling and getting really sweaty when you skate barefoot..

i dont wear the top eyelet because, my XXX vapor are so stiff that my ankle can't move so much that i want... i used to lace my top eyelet when i was skating on my XX vapor but when i bought those XXX vapor i couldn't bend my ankle so much that i want.

so i dont lace top eyelet anymore...

(sorry. my english sucks, but try understand that post)

Laced all the way up, laces wrapped around, tube socks and shin guards and socks pulled over the tops of the skates.

all the way up, no socks, extremely stiff/tight skates... i have size 11 shoe, i wear 6.5 skates zair comp se. stiffer/tighter=better.

With my 9k's I keep the bottom laces up to the lace lock loose and all the eyelets above the lace lock medium.

I just wear plain old socks to skate in (favorites are footjoys). To me socks are like undershirts. It's alot easier to wear plain old cotton socks and t-shirts than it is to have "specialty" gear like underarmor and oxysocks. I can just throw the dirty ones in the laundry and grab another pair, no worrying if my "special" stuff is clean or if I have enough to last me through multiple games in a weekend. Not to mention the cost of the "special" stuff...for the price of 1 underarmor shirt I can get 3-4 t-shirts.

Depends on what kind of UA you wear, and how much your t-shirts cost. I've gotten all my long sleeves for under 25 bucks, and short and sleeveless are cheaper. Okay, back on topic...
