HotBacon 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 I have my top 10 presets like this:1. Howard 100 (w/ my commute I need Howard every morning)2. Raw Dog Comedy3. Playboy Radio4. Coffehouse (the majority of it sux, but sometimes you can get an acoustic Staind, STP, Nickleback, etc. song that makes it worthwhile)5. Sirius Hits (just to keep up w/ what's new)6. The Pulse7. The Spectrum (not sure why, but my favorite artists seem to pop up on there alot, so I programmed it in)8. Alt Nation9. Backspin (love the "old school" hip-hop)10. NFL Radio (wish it was NHL radio, but it's the next best thing I guess)
ItalianSpartan 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 1. Octane- The best rock station I've ever heard2. Faction- I usually don't listen to the Bam Margera, Tony Hawk, or Lance Armstrong shows, but they have a nice mix of rap and rock3. New Country4. Hot Jamz5. Hip-Hop Nation6. Alt Nation7. Shade 458. Hits 19. Sports Action- Among other play-by-play stations, 123 has NHL Live weekdays in the late morning. It's usually a good show, but unfortunately all they ever seem to talk about are the Rangers or Devils10. Maxim Radio- Pretty much everything you'd want in one stationThose are my favorites, although I am happy with just about every station on Sirius, even some of the talk stations. NHL games are still broadcast, but I'm not sure if that will continue next season, as I believe XM will have exclusive rights. Haven't listened to much Howard or Playboy yet, but knowing how good Raw Dog is, I'm sure they're great. I've had XM as well, and one of the best things about Sirius is that the entire network is almost 100% uncensored. XM only has a few stations that are uncensored. XM does pay much more attention to the NHL, but I think Sirius takes the cake overall.
Vapor 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 I think XMs coverage of hockey is great. They have a dedicated channel, home ice, that is hockey 24/7 they have 5 or 6 daily talk shows, and have 7 channels just for broadcasting games. What does Sirius do?
Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 Being part of the "older" aged folk, there are exactly two channels that I like on XM (channels 008 and 009) that SIRIUS, I feel doesn't cover as well on, but, those are the ONLY two channels!...Bottomline, I'll take SIRIUS over XM.That's interesting you say that, because when I first considered satellite radio I listened to both at Best Buy, then browsed through their websites. That was about two-and-a-half years ago, so playlists have obviously changed since then, but I had the impression that XM would go deeper into albums, whereas Sirius seemed to be closer to Clear Channel. I ended up choosing XM and now I like that they have MLB. It's such a passive activity -- I'll listen to a game in the background while I'm worki--, um, spending time on the computer. Maybe I'll take another look at Sirius.Regarding the perfect station, I haven't heard one since the early 90's. To me, the perfect station would have about 25% new songs in decent rotation, 65% classic songs, and 10% deeper or even obscure cuts. If it were in the rock genre only, I'd still take it, but the perfect mix would be about 40% rock (including live cuts), 25% alternative, 10% pop, 5% reggae, 5% hip hop, 5% rap, 5% R&B / soul, and 5% spread out among acoustic, ballads, jazz, classical and country. They have a dedicated channel, home ice, that is hockey 24/7 they have 5 or 6 daily talk shows, and have 7 channels just for broadcasting games. What does Sirius do? Sirius does the bare minimum, possibly because their contract is running out. They still air all the playoff games and almost all of the regular season games, but outside of that, they just air NHL Live on weekday mornings during the season (I'm not sure if it continues during the off-season). I know XM has great hockey coverage (my dad has it), and I wish Sirius had an exclusive NHL channel, too.

HotBacon 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2006 Hate terrestrial radio now. My Xterra was in the shop for 2 days last week and I was stuck w/ a loaner. I haven't listened to terrestrial in my ride since I got Sirius, and I was absolutely miserable when it was my only option. Commercials, commercials, commercials, shitty music, more commercials, gitty unprofessional djs, more commercials. Horrible. From a business perspective, Sirius is killing XM. Since Howard signed on Sirius subscriptions are on the rise and XM is stagnant or going down. With any luck, the added listenership (and money base) may be able to move the NHL coverage from XM to Sirius. That is my only complaint w/ Sirius...limited hockey coverage. jjalb29 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2006 Have had Sirius for about about 2 yrs now. I agree fully that going back to regular radio just plain sux. Not sure how XM is set up, but i like how the stations are grouped together so if you hit one preset you can just scroll up or down for the same type of music.Plus i'm a big Elvis fan, so Sirius is betterPresets:1. Hits 12. Elvis radio3. Today's country4. Prime country5. Buzzsaw6. Hair Nation

Ive been listening to o&a and Ron and Fez since '99.. from the old rf.com days. I actually prefer Ron and Fez, Ron is jsut so funny, some of the lines he throw out there are just priceless. Hes got class that guy... I didnt wanna get into the whole stern vs. oa argument... but OA are much better than stern... and that is NOT an opinion, its a fact... look it up

Crazy Alice has been great lately. I had a 2.5 hour commute from Jan.-Apr. so I was listening to Bubba on the way home before they started replaying the morning show. He wasn't all that bad, I actually got to like him. But once the replay started I was able to listen to half of the morning show on the way there, and the other half on the way home...no more Bubba. Now I can only handle about 5 minutes of him until I'm annoyed.I was going to jump on Vapor's comment to but figured I wouldnt' start a 12321432 page argument. But since you brought it back...I'm not sure what kind of facts Vapor would have us look up to prove it. Howard has O&A beat in ratings, years in the business, money made, fines by the FCC, so on and so forth.

Alright. I was kidding, of course it is an opinion who is better. BUT, obviosuly you listen to everything howie says, so I guess I will have to use facts...So Sirius is KILLING XM right? Okay, lets first look at current stock price.Sirius: 4.25XM: 13.14But Stock Price isn't all that matters. Lets see who has the bigger subscriber baseSirius: 4,077,747 subscribers (at the end of 1Q 2006)XM: 6,501,859 subscribers (at the end of 1q 2006)FUCK, we are getting our asses kicked.According to trends, XM is on there way to reach 9 million subs by 4Q 2006Please dont listen to everythign Howard says, he lies a lot, and peopel (like you) believe him. At first OA were failurers for going to Satillite. Then Howard followed them to Satillite. Then they are simulcasted on Terestrial, and of course, again, they are failures. You know the reason they went there, MONEY. Don't be STUPID. If it wasnt a transaction that could make money for both companies, they wouldn't do it.It is all about different tastes. I just do now find hoo hoo funny. A lot of people do. But dont believe everything howy says, he lies... a lotSOURCES: XM Subs: http://www.xmradio.com/newsroom/screen/pr_2006_04_27.htmlSirius subs: http://investor.sirius.com/ReleaseDetail.c...eleaseID=194903Stock Prices: finance.yahoo.com (SIRI AND XMSR)
HotBacon 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2006 When you're looking at stock prices a snapshot is not going to tell you anything. Take a look at the trends from about 3rd quarter '05 to date. XM has had to lower their projections several times in that period, while Sirius has hit all their expectations. Same w/ subscriber numbers and revenue (XM revenue doubles in 1st quarter '06, but Sirius' tripled). Who knows if the trends will continue, but that's the way it looks now.I wouldn't say Howard lies, but he does tne dto paint things in a light that flatters himself. Vapor 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2006 Claims that Sirius is killing xm are just bullshit. Its easy to triple your revenues when they are 100 dollars, you then have 300 dollars. But if you double your revenues, when they are 1000 dollars, you have 2000 dollars (this is just an example). Look at ACTUAL numbers. XM has SIRIUS beat in every way, number of radios sold, subscribers, stick price, units sold, amount of auto manufactuers, etc. Just because they tripled there revenues (which are far lower than XMs) and XM doubed theirs does not mean they are CLOSE to beating XM. johnpace2 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2006 I say we revisit this in 6-9 months and see how XM is doing then.

I would agree with you here as of 12/31/05. However, the main ingredient is Howard. They've added all those subscribers since he started on 1/9/06.XM was killing Sirius, but in a year, I expect Sirius to be outpacing XM in subscribers and revenue growth. Vapor 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2006 The end of 1Q 2006 is the end of April sir. All of those subs are included in the current numbers. To quote you "but Sirius is now killing XM", are you backing down from that claim? Sirius is paying Howard 100 million per year. Half a billion over 5 years for 4 days a week. GREAT move for SIRIUS, almsot better than getting Richard Simmons and Martha Stewart. WOOF WOOF. They will not make money giving 100 million per year to hoo hoo. johnpace2 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2006 The point is that Sirius subs were around $1m before Howard and now they are at $4m.It's the rate of growth that counts.Sirius has gotten a lot closer to XM, which had a commanding lead before Howard started.Anyway, no need to argue further. Time will tell.
