Need new skates

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I don't care to shell out "major" money for a pair of skates, as hockey is not my living (and I'm 20 so it's not like I have major inflows of cash). I usually go midrange.

Now, I've basically grown up in Bauer's and for the past while have been in different series of Vapors. However I've never had great luck with most of my Vapor's even though I take great care of my skates, so I'm a little hesitant to grab the 19's (or shell out that much for the 30's). With that said, a new Supreme line (namely the 70's as the one90's are to much) has me intrigued, and so do the new Easton's (namely the 1200c) for this year.

So I guess all I'm looking for is if someone can give me a complete rundown of what the Supreme 70 is (I've heard various things). What the fit is like, and basically like I said what the hell the skate is. My LHS is only getting 10's, 30's, and 50's in and I don't care to much for the 50's I think (I'd rather get something a bit better).

As for Easton, I'd like to know what people think of this year's improved skates. I think the 1500c might be a bit out of what I want to spend but the 1200c isn't really to far out and the 800c seems fairly reasonable. I guess some input on those skates would be nice. The only skate in so far at my LHS is the 1500c and I didn't bother asking the price the last time I was there because I figured it'd be more than I'd want to spend since it's their highest model and that I was short on time when I was last there. I've never had Easton skates before but they look fairly narrow which for me is perfect (CCM's/RBK's, etc are just a bit to wide for my taste's, though I haven't tried pump skates because at the moment RBK and my LHS are on bad terms because RBK only would sell them the pump skates if they bought a mass order back in march).

Ok, so you haven't had luck with Bauers, it's time to start trying on all the other models. You say you're not loaded with money (like the gear whores), so look for a good mid range skate and try them all on and see what fits best.

meh it was just some of the recent vapors that have fallen apart on me fairly quickly

the 8090's are basically online only for me and nobody has my size...i know in a way what kind of fit i like, so it was just basically down to really the NBH supreme 70 and either the 800c or 1200c easton, guess I was just looking for some info and feedback about any of those skates, mainly because they aren't in at the moment, plus I don't ever hear much about easton skates and I'm totally confused about the supreme 70's at the moment (its hard because the review section here is pretty bare even for ice skates, let alone roller which have even less)

But remember, skates are probably one of , if not the most important thing that should fit and work for you. Dont be afraid to spend more on skates and less on a stick for instance

I think what he meant was to not be afraid to pay some more $ for higher end skates, being that we've all seen people with crappy skates but have a top of the line sticks.

I'd recommend to talk to Danny at Larry's Sports Shop in Canada. Not only he can give you a good advice but if you huggle with him you'd get the lowest price around. Just in case, by no means I am affiliated with him. I am in Ukraine.

I just bought two pairs of skates from him-the new Vector 10s for myself and RBK 8Ks for a buddy here. He placed a special order with CCM for me for a C width in Vectors without an upcharge and even without me prepaying the order. How many retailers would do that for you?

Look him up on the Internet.
