NHL players from your homewtown?

Recommended Posts

Eric Weinrich grew up in a town about 15 minutes away. Sounds like he may be coming back for good also. Would be sweet to have an ex-NHL'er playing pick-up at the rink I play at, which is the rink he played his youth hockey at also.

Class of Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, population approximately 55.000. I'm only mentioning players actually born in town, not players who are born elsewhere but represented our local team before their NHL career.

Peter Forsberg

Markus Näslund

Niklas Sundström

Daniel Sedin

Henrik Sedin

Niklas Nordgren (represented both the Hurricanes and Penguins this season)

Former NHL players:

Anders Hedberg (Jets, Rangers in the 70s and 80s)

Lars Molin (Canucks in the 80s)

Hans Jonsson (Penguins, still active in Sweden)

Andreas Salomonsson (Devils, Capitals, still active in Sweden)

EDIT: Just found this article from NHL.com about my town and the hockey talent coming from here.

Farmington, MI--Brent Johnson. Our families are friends, our grandmas were friends in grade school.

Eric Lindros also went to my HS for a year when he played Jr. A for Detroit Compuware.

Dwight Parrish, another Farmington boy, played for years in the AHL and, last I knew, was playing in Great Britain.

Craig Anderon, backup goalie for the Chicago Blackhawks grew up on the outskirts of Chicago in Park Ridge.

Fans haven't really paid much attention to him since he blows (88.6 SV%) and was put on waivers this past season and claimed by Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and then Chicago again in a weeks time.

Well I grew up in Campbell River BC, where Rod Brind'Amour apparently also grew up. I never saw him play there.

I've lived the past couple years (and my mom still lives) in Dryden, Ontario. Chris Pronger is from there.

Right now I'm living in Sherwood Park, Alberta, where Cam Ward (and a host of other guys) are from. Summer league hockey is crazy, get guys back from the A and the dub and the coast leagues. Fun stuff.

No one right now, but my father works with the mother of a kid named Marvin Degon who's currently playing for the Hartford Wolfpack. I watched him play through high school... A very good offensive defenseman.

Nick Foligno, Ottawa's first-round pick in the 2006 entry draft, lived in Hershey while his dad was coaching the Hershey Bears; the family later moved to Sudbury when Mike began coaching the Sudbury Wolves and Nick was playing on the team. Real nice kid, played pickup hockey with him a few times.
