Dallas Stars place Bill Guerin on 24-hour waivers

Recommended Posts

According to the Star-Telegram, the Stars will pay the him $4.5 million US over the next two years, money that will not count toward the NHL's $44 million US salary cap.

why would his salary not count agaisnt the cap, sorry if it's a stupid question.

Apparently, the Star-Telegram is incorrect:

http://www.nhl.com/news/2006/06/276088.html

"The Stars will pay him $4.5 million - two-thirds of his $6.7-million salary - which will count against the team's salary cap next season. So the Stars saved $2.2 million in cap room for the 2006-07 season."

The Star-Telegram is incorrect. However the Dallas Morning News has the correct story. Basically, the Stars buyout the contract and can spread out the impact over twice the remaining time of the contract. Since Guerin had a year left on the contract, the Stars will pay him 4.5 million over 2 years. Meaning the will save 4.5 million this year, but lose 2.2 million the year after.

He was a nice guy, but when you are the highest paid player on the team and only pull down 13 goals....see ya. He said his family really liked it here (dallas), I wonder if he will try to find another warm climate....phoenix? One of the Cali teams? Or just maybe anyone that will take him....

Ive had to deal with him numerous times when he came into the store I work in. He was always polite and thanking me. Go figure...maybes its because I wasnt asking for his autograph or something.
